What red dot for AR

I currently have a Noveske Recon rifle with a Leupold 2-8x MK4 scope on it, I am looking into getting into 3 gun and doing some CQB courses in the spring so am thinking of getting a red dot type/reflex sight for it. Just wondering what kind you guys recommend and what size dot to get? I would like to keep the budget around 5-600$

Main options tend to be either Aimpoint or EOTech. For the budget minded, there is Vortex, but from what I have found through my research, you just can't go wrong with the Aimpoint Micro T1.
 
For the amount your spent on that gun, I'd go eotech or aimpoint.
I prefer eotech for fast transitions in the 0-50 yard ranges, I find them easier to function with both eyes open than aimpoint, I find them easier to pick up the circle and dot faster. Aimpoints the battery lasts forever, but unless you're considering an apocalyptic end to north america and roaming bands of bandits that you'll have to fight off, you'll always have batteries that you can buy for your Eotech. But that's a personal opinion, I have 2 sets of eotechs + magnifiers and I have one aimpoint micro t1.

My eyes are not the best and I find I'm better with the Eotechs with the circle and dot as opposed to the Aimpoint with just the dot

By the way really nice rifle!!! You're making me jealous.
 
What would you guys pick? Eotech or Aimpoint? Also what is the difference between the Eotech 552 vs XPS 2 / Aimpoint T1 or H1?

Haven't looked much at the EOTech stuff, but I think one of the main differences between T1 and H1 is that T1 has the night vision mode. I believe it may be built more durable as well, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Maybe someone else may know for sure.
 
for my next AR i'm going to buy an Aimpoint PRO. having seen the PRO in person if seems like the best bang for the buck (no pun intended). for my current budget AR i am in the middle of upgrading my Bushnell TRS-25 to a Vortex sparc. the trs-25 will go on the 22lr AR. my next AR will be a high end build.
 
I have the eotech 512 and t1 along with some others in my ARs, I find the eotech easier to pick up since it has a nice big circle to zero in on, for longer distance past 50m I like the t1 since its a nice small crisp dot.

You pretty much got it, except that both are as durable, but the T1 can go deeper underwater than the H1, so unless your a Navy seal using NVG, get the H1 and keep the money for more ammo.
 
I have spent time with both the eotech and the aimpoint. I find the eotech to be a easier to aim at closer ranges but I don't like the fuzzy ness of the reticle. The aimpoint has a nice crisp dot. If I was shooting 0-50 I would pick eotech, 50-100 I would pick aimpoint.

If weight is any consideration , the micro wins by a mile.
 
Eotechs are easier to pick up fast, aimpoint last 8 years on a battery.

Your choice...
Look on the eotech site for all the differences, aa battery, 123 battery, side buttons, front buttons, night vision, number of dots, etc.

I have an xps2-2 and a 512 and i like them both.
 
I have had Eo-Tech, and several aimpoints including the T1 and the PRO.

IMHO the PRO is amazing value. I have been running it on my DDM4V5 and I love the bejesus out of it. While it is larger than the T1, it has built in mount and it has many of the settings that the T1 has. Also the built in flip up lens caps are awesome. I personally like the slightly larger field of view on the PRO. At $450 the PRO is hard to beat and I find it exceptional value.


I did not feel the same way about my eotech, the battery case rattled and I found it would eat batteries like crazy. The aimpoint is great as you don't have to worry about your batteries leaving you screwed, generally they have a 5-8 year life span of continuous use. One thing I did like about the Eotech is the 64 MOA dot for targets 25-50m away, the Aimpoint 2moa and 4moa are handy but I found them more useful at longer ranges.

To be honest I would buy another PRO over both of them for value, durability, quality and performance reasons.
 
Aimpoint for battery life and reliability. Used to own both Aimpoints and EoTechs, now only Aimpoints... and Bushnell TRS-25 for 22s, not a bad sight for price.

Well said, I have an Eo-tech, T1 and a PRO and you can't beat the PRO for the money. In the end it's your choice, you can't go wrong with either.
