What reliable fun .22 would you recommend for under $350?

I own an unmodified Ruger 10/22 compact which is nice and light for my young daughter to shoot and I will be going to a Ruger SR 22 when the time comes to hand down the 10/22 to my daughter. She did start with a mint condition used $100 Remington .22LR bolt which she still has, both fire any and all ammo. with out complaint. I think the guys/gals who upgrade the trigger etc. on a 10/22 or any other firearm just want to make something decent even better, like AWOL stated regarding his Porsche's shocks, it's simple to improve upon an already great product (also like many things, once you've used a premium version of something it's hard to keep using just decent things whether it be a trigger, ammunition, tennis racquet or a sports car.
So if buying a semi-auto 22LR I'd recommend a Ruger 10/22 all the way (I've owned #5 over the years and regretted selling everyone as all have worked flawlessly stock or modified) or any basic well cared for bolt should prove reliable, then spend the extra $$ on quality optics and lots of ammo.

Good luck with your choice (let us know what you bought) and luck getting Zeroed In

I would highly recommend the Marlin Model 60 of 795. For under $200 all day, they are the best deal in firearms at the moment and are superb working guns. The only thing I'd recommend is installing an aperture sight, and you're good to go. The guns are durable and functional with superb accuracy out of the box.

Frick'in kids and their 10-22's.

A great fun little 22 for under $350........CZ Scout.
Then when yu git old and cranky, you can be a great grandpa
and pass it down.
Any number of old Winchester's, Browning's, Cooey's, ........
I bought not long ago an old Winchester Model 74 semi.
Loads through the rear wood like the Browning SA.
What a frick'in hoot once I got her all cleaned up.
Only thing, no way to mount glasses on her.............. : (

Are you kidding??? That is completely unacceptable!!! Evidently you have not mastered the CGN Code of Ethics. It specifically addresses this issue where it states in Chapter 4, section 17b in paragraph 6, and I quote:

"The initiator of any thread, requesting opinions on which rifle is best, must return to said thread at his/her earliest convenience (or within 48 hours, whichever comes first) and update the followers of said thread about which option from the thousands of opinions, you elected to pursue. Failure to comply with this provision may result in being shunned"...

I hereby shun you until further notice.

:slap:

Oh, and the 10/22 was a good choice, congrats & Happy New Year...

Aww at least he updated us.

Marlin XT-22. Quarter sized groups at 50 yards all day. It feels like quality in your hands and shoots just the same. Cant be more reliable then a nice bolt action rimfire.

Got a 10/22 with help of this board for general plinking and squirrel duty...been total fun and I have shot a squirrel at 40 yds with open sights
