What rifle for a left hand shooting youth??

I'm looking for a left handed rifle for a young shooter that is left eye dominate. Considering a BLR in 243 or 7mm-08. What other options are there?? Thinking of a lever action so a right hander could use it. Is this a good way to go ?

Browning micro hunter LH available in both 243 & 7mm-08.I picked up one last year.Awesome rifle.got mine from Barton's in Grand Prarie.:)
 
Pretty much anything in a lever, semi, or pump to begin with but I now own 3 leftie bolts, Ruger and CZ. You can always put a short stock on it so it is easy to shoot and put the original back on when he stretches out. Pretty easy to get used stocks expecially for older levers etc. My first guns were an 870 Wingmaster 12ga and a Cooey model 64 22. Got a Winchester 30-30 lever after that and many more since....:)
 
I have a lot of rifles and come hunting season it is not unusual for someone to show up wanting to borrow a specail type of rifle. I am right handed, so lefties have to look at levers, pumps and semies.

The BLR is a nice rifle. I have used it and always find it a bit muzzle light. More difficult to hold steady.

Don't forget the Remington pump. I lend a 14 in 35 rem and a 7400 in 308 and 35 Whelan. The 7400's have flaoting barrels and out of the box are more accurate than any bolt rifle I have bought.

If I was going to get a rifle for a junior lefty hunter, it would be the 7400 in 243 or 260. I am really impressed with the 260.
 
Hi there: Being a lefty, I started shooting RH rifles and did so until my eyes starting getting old and I moved from opens sights to a scope. I now use a LH bolt Savage that I just had rebarrel to 338-06 and a Remington 7400 in 30-06, both great rifles. Whatever you start out with make sure it fits and is a light enough caliber that he/she can hand. Later you can move up to a LH bolt or a semi auto.

Get him a right hand bolt gun. A tradex gun is an excellent choice as you can lop off stock or whatever is needed to make the LOP fit him. 6.5x55, 30-06, 8x57.... all great mild hunting cartridges .

A 3 position mauser saftey is a Youths Best friend. A semi is not.

I am left eye dominant and left handed and would'nt have a left hand bolt even if it was free. No need for it.

Do the kid a favor and teach him to shoot with both eyes open from which ever shoulder is needed.

not true- that hand out there on the fore arm it is capable of moving backwards operating the bolt and moving back to the forearm. The cheek and trigger hand never leave the stock. reaquiring a proper trigger hand grip is way more costly to time then is reaquirring a forearm grip. Both RH and LH shooters need to adjust forearm grip in order to aquire sight picture. RH shooter on RH rifles need to reposition both trigger hand and forearm. LH shooters of RH bolt guns only need to adjust one hand. make sense? basically I am of the humble opinion that right hand shooters should be using left rifles LOL>
 
I'd have to vote for a Model 700 Youth in 7mm-08 or something of that ilk. I don't think Ruger makes their real compact M77 in a leftie or I'd advise you to go with that one.
 
To me it would depend on which way the young feller wants to go----long shots out to roughly 250yds or does he really prefer the woods hunting where as a little Marlin 30/30 would be ideal for him/her and he could grow with the gun and , of course, left handed or with the other a .243 to start but it would be right handed. That's why the Aussies' wear their hats up on the left---because at that time most of the men were left handed. Once he knows which gun he prefers then he could get that special one.
 
i , like a lot of others started on right hand bolt guns , when i got my first lefthander everything really seemed to feel natural, i can use a righthand bolt gun, but have to go with what feels more natuarl to me as i to am lefthanded and left eye dominint, to me its worth the trouble, wade
 
Remington youth left hand in 7mm-08. Go with a bolt gun for a youngster. They can use semi-auto's once they learn to make the first shot count and learn proper gun control and safety.
