Ok, I am a total newbie at guns so I need some help...

I want a Stainless Steel .22 that handles both long and shorts. It should be semi - auto (allows for a bannana clip) and under $500.00)

I hear you are the experts... what do you recommend.

I doubt that you'll find a "banana clip" (it's called a mag) that handles both shorts and long rifle rounds. Tube fed rifles will, but some have issues cycling the shorts. Other than that, you have lots of choices.

Have a look at the stainless Ruger 10/22 - not what I would call a target rifle but a great piece nontheless. And one of the most popular rifles on the market due to all of the mods available for it.

If you're looking for a rifle to handle .22LR, Long & Shorts, you're better off looking at a bolt gun. Trying to get most semi-auto rifles to reliably feed, shoot and cycle using longs & shorts is most likely an exercise in futility and frustration.

If you're looking for a rimfire semi-auto that accepts 25 round Butler Creek "Hot Lips" magazines, your best bet is to pick up a stainless steel Ruger 10/22

How about a...Taurus pump action .22 in stainless?

One other thing... you may get tired of plinking fast. You may want to also think about getting something like an Anschutz CIL 190 with peep sights or a Mossberg 144LSB with peep sights and doing some serious target shooting. The 10/22 is simply not a great target rifle. The others mentioned are bolt action - the 190 is single shot.

Did you look at all the posts? 3 posts almost exactly the same word for word, except for the type of gun being asked about...all within a few minutes of each other. Just seemed odd is all.

Well inspector Clouseau what do you think he's up to?

I did post 3 times....

I intend to buy 3 guns....1 shotgun, one .22 and one 30-06. I want opinions on all of them but specific to each one. Thought it was easier for people only wanting to reply to one of the 3 types. Feel free to respond to all of them but they are all slightly different.

I am not sure what else is being read into this....??

I do appreciate everyone's feedback to date...keep it coming

Only time will tell, Watson.

As I said..."Just seemed odd is all". I didn't say he was up to anything. Tho it is witchhunt season...and people have been burned at the stake for less!

But back to the topic at hand...
I don't think anyone has mentioned the Marlin Model 60 yet. Nice rifle at a good price...but no banana clips!
