What rings and base(or rail) for a rem 700 police 308?

Will be using a Vortex Viper riflescope PST 6-24x50 SFP with EBR-1 MOA
(or is there a better scope for 850$?)

do I need med rings for a 50mm scope?

Where is all that in stock?

What distances will you normally be shooting out to 90% of the time? Under 800yrds, you can get away with a 0MOA rail, past 800, look at a 20MOA rail. Not sure how much elevation range your scope has. More qualified long range shooters will chime in I'm sure and correct me if I'm wrong. Prophet River carries EGW one piece scope bases at a pretty decent price compared to Brownells. When you get the base, mount just the front screws and see if there is a gap between the rear receiver and the base. if so, you might want to consider bedding your scope base.

For 50mm objective, you can get away with low rings. Burris XTR low rings are pretty solid. I'm using Weaver tactical rings and they seem to do the job as well. If you got some $$, you can look at the TPS rings or Vortex Precision Matched Rings.

I'm using EGW rails and Burris rings on my 700s, all bought from Jerry. He can match a scope to your needs too.
 
I used Nightforce 20moa base with Burris XTR low rings. Gave me about 3/16" clearance at objective with Vortex HS LR 4-16x50.
Seems to be holding up well. Bedded mount with Devcon but there wasn't much to fill.
Mount came from Hirsch Precision in NB.
