What round should I use in my 700 SPS .223?

Hey guys,

I have a Remington 700 SPS .223 with a 12" rate of twist. What round is best for this barrel? My options are 45gr, 50gr and 69gr hollow points or 62gr full metal jacket.

I'm just looking to plink at 100 to 200 yards, maybe 300.

For reference, the 45gr is Winchester. The 50gr and 62gr are American Eagle (Federal) and the 69gr is Lapua Aficionado+ Match Grade.

I was told that only an AR-15 barrel could stabilize the 69gr round properly but would like some feedback from the experts on here.

A one in 12 " twist probably wouldn't do a very good job of stabilizing a 69 gr bullet. I think Sierra recommends an 8 or 9" twist for their 69 gr but 62 gr or less should be okay.

for plinking, I'd go with 55 grain bullets bought in the bulk (Federal, Winchester). If you are looking for accuracy, I'd look to something along the line of Hornady A-max, or Sierra match or game kings, again, all in 55 grain.
Spitzer bullets will generally give excellent accuracy for short range shooting (100-200m) and boat tails will do well generally overall, but are more suited (than spitzers) for longer distances.
You could try heavier or more importantly longer bullets in the 60+ range, but you may not fair to well.
Min. twist for 69gr SMKs is 1:10 as I recall
