My moms (she's 94 ) uncle once gave our family a savage 99 in 30-30 it was a slender rifle with a brass but plate and quite a curve to fit the shoulder . We got it about 1969 when the uncle was maybe 75ish

Anybody got info or a pic of yours to share ?

Thanks - KJ

Just to make comment about nomad 68 reply, there is no difference between an 1899 and a model 99 when it comes to the model 99 Savage rifles. The model 99 is a short form or abbreviation 4 the 1899 rifle. The Savage Model 99 rifle was the most advanced lever action repeating rifle and it's time and still is in some cases today. It was the first hammerless lever-action repeating rifle ever produced in the world. It carried features that no other rifles were ever invented with at its time and still to today such as round counters Crossbolt safeties and loaded chamber indicator just to name a few

Although they are the same rifles, there is in fact , difference. The difference is that up until sometime in the 1920's (iirc) they called it the 1899 and stamped the rifles as such. They dropped the 18 after this and just stamped them all "99". The rifle actually started as the model 1895.

Quite a few differences in fact, depending on production year.
By your logic shakyjake an 1899C would be the same as a 99C...an that just isn't the case.
The top rifle in the first pic is an 1899C, the bottom picture is a 99C. Notice any differences?

OP, you are likely looking for an 1899.
Bottom rifle in the first picture is an 1899A TD(round barrel) in 30-30
The middle one is an 1899B (full octagon barrel) 32-40
The top one is an 1899C (half round/half octagon) 38-55
