i just bought a brand new tikka t3 lite in 7mm mag, i am thinking of spending 1000-1500 on a scope just wondering if you have any suggestions? also wondering about a bipod or any other tactical upgrades?

The worlds your oyster with a budget like that. NIghtforce maybe, or. Really good vortex. Maybe even a swavorski? Whatever you choose I hope it works out for you.

keep an eye on the ee and you should be able to find a nightforce for somewhere in that price range ive asked the same question before and thats what it seems to me that everyone swears by either that or a sightron. as far as bipods go again alot of guys run harris pods ive never used one so i cant really give a personal opinion

mostly bench shooting maybe deer or moose up north, what magnification do you think would be best for the 7 mm mag

What Distance do you intend to take it out to?

On my R700 in .308 I'm using a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40. I highly recommend this scope if you don't want to spend the extra $$$ on a Nightforce.I thought of going to a 14x but I find if your fire more than a few shots the mirage becomes to much of a distraction at anything more than a 12x.

What is optimal for hitting paper targets at long distance, isn't necessarily optimal or even suitable for deer or bear shot at closer ranges, and on the move. I'd try to keep the low range down to 3 or 4 and the magnification no more than 9 or 14. Maybe a Bushnell 6500 series with a wide range of magnification would make for a good dual purpose scope. Bear are often shot quite close, as can be deer, and too much magnification makes it hard to find and track them through the scope. You wind up with a small field of view with a lot of magnification.

In the tactical world, as new scopes you could get a Vortex PST or Sightron SIII in a variety of models. Used you could get your hands on a Leupold Mark4 or possibly a Nightforce, though it could be a streach on the ladder.

Offer and demand however will be your PITA - when they do come up for sale, you got to jump on the opportunity.

Of course you can take a tactical scope hunting, it'll function quite well. You could for $1,500 get yourself a real nice used Swarovsky. Seeing that you'll be hunting Moose up north (deer up north..well...good luck!), you'll hunting in large (and closed) logging clear cuts or wide open areas where long shots will be required, a good amount of magnification will serve you best. If you'd be hunting around here (Ottawa region), you'd be hunting in thick swampy brush, so a higher powered glass wouldn't serve you any good, actually a fixed low powered would be best.

Consider as well in your budget $$ for your scope rings.

Good luck with your purchase.
