What scope and rings should I get?

I am going to rely on you guys being more experienced in this field. I just bought a Ruger 10/22 with the bull barrel. I put my cheap 3-9x40 Bushnell on it with a set of B-square rings.

I went to the range, sighted it in and i am impressed but I want a better scope. I beleive my scope is a fixed focus and my eyes are not all that good at distances so things were a bit blurry.

Keeping in mind that aprox $300 or $400 is my maximum to spend. What scope, rings and reticle should i get?

I would like something that is crystal clear and not a fixed focus at more than 9x.

Please dont respond unless you have experience.

Thanks

JEK

You don't need a Leupold but they are nice to have. Myself I don't own one but I would like to get one for my rimfire. Their warranties are iron clad, they are amazing scopes but they cost a bit more then cheap scopes.

A Nice 2-7x33 would be good enough imo with some quality rings.

I am not sure what you mean by 'fixed focus'.

This particular scope should allow you to adjust the eyepiece so that it is tuned to your eye. It should be one of the first steps in your instruction booklet.

Once I bought a Leupold, I will buy nothing else.
Value for dollar in my book has been maximized by Leupold.
There may be better scopes out there, but I don't anything better and won't settle for anything less.
my 2 cents

I personally like the Mueller scopes, only get in the States though:mad: Like Wolf target ammo, only in the States, but makes a Norinco JW-15 shoot deadly accurate;)

something with adjustable objective would have to do. I have a good scope on mine, but I just got another , for this purpose special//////

ruger 10-22 scope

I have a Leupold M8 10X 40mm obj. on my 10-22. Midway bull barrel and black stock kit and a volquartsen trigger replacement kit. The M8 10X is not made anymore but Leupold has a 12X model (~500$ US) My M8 had some target knobs installed for 160$ (service center out west) after I had to return it blown by my 5 and 1/2 lb 300 wea. mag ultralight rifle. Got the scope in 1980. they fixed it for free no questions.

If you want to get the most out of your 10-22 set-up you need good glass. I won't go below Leupold quality personaly. unless it's for some real crappy gun. I believe in spending the same money or more on the glass than on the rifle. The trigger job really helped. Some factory triggers are quite hard. My friend's 10-22 trigger was so hard I thought the rifle was on safe !

Now it's a pleasure to shoot. But of course the bill got much higher than the 200 bucks original expenditure ... :D

1022 scope

Tried the $50 bushnell var and aim point was different depending on the magnification. Waiting for a Leupie VXII 3-9 bought on ebay for $180us. This should work out real nice. And a good excuse to blast off more ammo (if I really ever need an excuse that is)

target knobs

Bogie:

you might want to send it off to Leupold out west and have a target knob added for elevation. I have an old 3-9 Leu VX-II I bought in 1980 for 300$ and I'm considering a target knob for elev. I sent my Leu M8-10X back last year because my 300 wea. mag had blasted it out of focus. They fixed the scope for free no questions asked and I had the target knobs installed for 160$ so I figure one knob will be 80$ + shp. I have the 3-9 duplex on my 300 mag now. hope it will withstand the blasting :D

You can get the Mueller from a Canadian Source now. I've got one coming, 4.5x14x40, hopefully soon. Not sure whether or not I can post the dealer here so P.M. me for details. Good price too, well within your budget.

7.62mm

Oops. Like an idiot I didn't read through the entire thread. Sorry

With a limit of $300 to $400 you can still find a leupold if you shop around and might even find a good used one here in EE.
My thoughts are that your choice of reticles will make a big difference in your groups. The fine plex or target dots are the way to go for punching paper or knocking over steel chickens.
There was even a used Zeiss 3-9X that went for $400.00 on EE not too long ago.

These are my preferences:

For Target: Leupold VX-II 6-18x40mm Adj. Obj. ~$700
For Hunting: Leupold VX-I 2-7x28mm Rimfire ~$300
For Hunting: Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28 ~$200
