What scope for my Target/Varmint AR15??

I just picked up a Stag 6H upper. Its a 24" stainless target barrel. Wife is going to get me a PRS stock for my Birthday so all I have left do deal with is an optic for it. I am thinking I want something with an upper magnification of around 14x or 16x. What scope and mount would you suggest for this gun. I am looking for something in the $400 ish range. looked at Millet but someone pointed out that they are huge. Falcon menace looks ok. I am open to used but didn't see much in the EE right now. Also i want to keep the scope mounted as low as possible. I hate the look when the scope is floating way abave the reciever. I'm thinking one piece mount. RRA looks good and is about theprice i am looking but i think its quite high compared to others.

What do the CGN experts suggest. Posting pics of your setup would also be great.
 
Get the american defense recon mount. Don't waste 400 on a cheap scope. Save up until you can get something decent.
 
I put a Milldot 6 x 24 4200 Bushnell 1" tube on my wifes AR. Optics are bright and clear, side paralax and semi target turrets. Bit more than the $ 400.00 you talked about but not a whole lot more!
