I have a barnard action with barnard 17 moa rail. The barrel is a straight 1.25 inch tube. I will be mounting a Schmidt and bender 12.5-50 x 56( 34mm main tube). Can anyone tell me what rings to get( height etc.)?
many thanks..

(drooling...)

The Burris Tactical rings are great, TPS rings, Ken Farrel Rings, Nears, Leupold QRW's

That cartridge is your gun built around?

This info is from Seekins it is a guide

You also need to take into account the barrel size and the height of the action to the barrel.

To make it easy,

40mm or less - low rings all the time
50mm obj - low rings on < 5 contour
Medium rings > #5 and up (strait barrel get med high)
56mm obj Medium on < 5 contour (sometimes med high)
Medium high on sendero contour
High on >7 contour

34mm...
50mm objective - lows will work all the time
56mm objective - lows < sendero or #5 contour Sometimes lows will fit number 7 contour barrels, but it depends on how long the shank is after the smith installed it.
Highs for sure anything larger than #7

This is assuming our ring height and our rail height. Also using buttler creek caps. YMMV

This is my very first target rifle build. The gun is chambered with a custom reamer I got from Pacific tool.It is a 7mm SAUM with 0.315 neck and throated for 180 bergers. The action is a Barnard, barrel( I have 3 lilja's 1/9 twist ,1.25 diameter and 30 inches long ,chambered and threaded),Robertson composites GBF stock(purple and silver) with adjustable cheek and 3 way adjustable butt . It will be topped off with a Schmidt and Bender 12.5-50x56 PMII.The gunsmithing was done by Joe Kroetsch and the action bedded by Ian Robertson.I should have everything ready to go in 1-2 weeks.Hopefully I get to try it out before the snow flies here in Ottawa.I might not have the schmidt and bender in time but will throw my nightforce on to try it out if need be.I will post some pics when I try it out.
Thanks for the advise on the rings. After looking at the diferent sites I think I will probably go with the NEAR.

Some people have the best toys... ;)

My 7WSM hunting rifle (1-9" twist Hart 22.5") shoots those Bergers nicely, you'll enjoy them I'm sure.

How's that GBF work out for you? I have the same one ordered and it would be great if you can give some feedback/comments. I'm still stuck on the colour combinations (as with you, I have purple as one, but still thinking of the other).

Also, pics would be nice :D

I have 20 MOA Farrell Rails on 3 Rem actions, one with a 1.25" Straight blank barrel and I use Medium Burris Tactical Rings with a NF 56mm Objective. I also have Medium TPS and Medium Burris rings with inserts on the other actions.

Farrell bases are known to be higher than most others so take this into account as well.

Dollars to donuts I would go with the TPS Rings (more bang for the buck).

Your choices are likely limited to Badger, US Optics, or Seekins (off the top of my head). There are very few manufactures making 34mm rings. Many of the manufactures listed make fine rings, just not in 34mm. Near may, they are good rings, but you'd have to check with them. I have had badgers and an accuracy international one piece mount. Both are rock solid. Just make sure that once the rings are mounted on your rail, you check to see if they need to be lapped before dropping that nice and very expensive scope in and cranking them down. Good luck, sounds like a very nice rig.

I ended up with the NEAR mrg Alfa mount which doesn't require any lapping. The quality is simply outstanding.I will definitely be getting more NEAR mrg products in the future.I also received the Schmidt and Bender 12-50x56 pmII.That is one serious scope.

Richard Near makes top notch stuff, the best out there in my opinion, and he is Canadian as well. I have 3 of his bases, and one of his brakes on a TRG 22.
