Anybody recommend a shotsize for Canada Geese? For hunting in Ontario? I have a my first invite to go goose hunting, might be snow geese to. The shell will be 2 3/4s only (thats all my gun will fit). What do you guys recommend?

Is Kent the best brand? What types? What size? Thanks for any help./:D

I use #2's, in the fastest shell I can find for steel shot. I have always liked the Kent's!

Also used #4's of the Federal Black Cloud for decoying geese last year......worked awesome, sometimes too well, had some pretty messed up birds!

Deuces or BB's. It's been a long since I've bought 2 3/4 but I'd be surprised if you can buy anything larger than BB's. You'll kill all the snows you want with 4's. Kents are good.

Never used anything but BBs for geese except on the prairies where I use #1(small geese).I've killed plenty with smaller shot while hunting ducks, but if I'm not dead sure they are close enough I don't shoot.I use a layout blind and flocked decoys, most of my geese are killed real close! Mur

Do you think I should just go with say Kent in Steel or Kent in Tungsten/Matrix? If I was going to get a box of #4s?

Do you know what type of Hunting you are going to be doing?

If you are Hunting out of a Ground Blind, and the birds are going to be Decoying, aka, landing in and around you, #4's will work inTungsten.

If you are going to be pass shooting, ie. shots out to 30-40 yards, go for something heavier, #2's or like others have said BB's in steel. If Tungsten, go with 2's. IMHO

Steel Paterns better with a more Open Choke....I always use an IC Choke for steel

Tungsten, you could probably use Mod or Improved Mod.

I think we are going to a friends house who says hes got Geese out back in his field. I dont have many details other than that.

Whats the cost for the Migratory game permit and the habitat stamp? Does the post office still have them for sale or is it something they run out of by the end of the year?

Pickings were slim! All I could get was a box of Winchester Super X and Challengers in #2 Shot in Steel. Hope this works ok. Thanks for all the help guys.

Well....the next best thing is what is in stock, LOL!

Yeah I bought it from Epps, they had almost nothing left. Ill buy some early in the spring when its all back in stock. Meanwhile this should do ok, I will look for a small scrawny goose. The last one I ate took some marinating :p

I marinate all geese breasts in Milk at least overnight......it tends to take that muddy taste out of them, as well as tenderizes the meat.......I was told the enzymes in the Milk do this.

Geese legs get turned into some kind of slow cooked recipe, so not so much of a problem!

I tried olive oil and vinegar type marinade. Taste was good, just tough. I tried slow cook and low temperature to. One I ate after roasting, the other I put back in fridge and made sandwhiches out of it. Cold tasted abit softer.

Anything else to put in marinade other than just milk?

I shoot an old model 12 I had choked by Briley and 2 3/4" loads are all it digests. My series II steel full absolutely crushes geese out to the 40 yard mark with Federal Ultra Shok 1 1/4 oz of #2's. I also shot Federal Speed Shok 1 1/8 oz #3's this year with great results out to about 35 yards on geese and out to 40 on ducks. I prefer the Ultra Shok though in the 1 1/4 oz #2 loading. Good luck to you whatever you go with.:)
