What should I do about this pitting?

Ive got some pitting that has shown up, must have happened last fall. Im usually diligent about cleaning, but I must have forgot.

The shotgun is a Japanese Browning. Should I leave it alone, or can a gunsmith take care of this? What should something like that cost?

Good question. I scrubbed the heck out of it thinking the same. There's a gunsmith in town so I'll get him to take a look. I don't mind spending a few bucks getting it taken care of as long as the fix isn't more detrimental than just leaving it be.
 
Just scrub it with a bronze brush and Rem Bore Cleaner and then mop it with G96 or Rem Oil... don't waste your.time and money bringing that to a gunsmith.
 
Ok so I take it that its not really too bad then. Just keep it oiled and scrubbed? This BSS 20ga Sporter was my first "nice" gun, and one that I'll never part with, so I feel like an ass for letting this happen to it, but on the other hand I've never been precious with it, and it has the battle scars of a grouse gun.

Two thumbs up for the G96 I love that stuff!.........wouldn't worry about that pitting one bit (not bad at all)....shoot....clean....repeat......I dont even look at that kinda stuff anymore
 
Chuck your cleaning rod (with a brass brush on the end) on a drill, wrap a thin layer of 000 steel wool around the brush. Spray the steel wool with a good dose of oil, G96 or penetrating oil, Liquid Wrench is what I use. At moderate speed work the brush up and down the barrel. Swab clean, replace and oil a second layer of wool and keep going until your satisfied.
