Hey fellas I have been thinking of getting rid of a firearm and not sure what to keep and what to consider letting go. I have a Remington 597 ss in 22lr that I use for small game and plinking at the range, I have a Remington M7 ss in .260 that is great for predators and deer, I have a Marlin 336 ss 30-30 that is an ideal brush gun, and a Browning BAR Long Trac 30-06 for bear and moose. The thing is I hunt Moose once in a blue moon and think that the .260 and 30-30 would be quite fine for the thick conditions I hunt for moose anyway we usually only get the swamp donkeys....... I have a citori for sporting clay and a benelli for hunting. I am thinking of getting rid of the 30-06 as I hunt moose far less than anything else and cant really justify all of them, what do you guys think ?? Would I be short handed with just the 30 30 and the .260 for deer bear and moose in all conditions???
Thanks for the advice...........
Jon

When you get this feeling that you "need" to sell some guns, just sit down, breathe deeply until that horrible feeling goes away. Then go out and buy a couple of new guns as a form of pennance!. ;)

LOL ...338........hhhhhhhhhmmmmmm , damn you guys make it tough to be practical it is so much more fun not to be....... so what would I need the 338 for if I keep all the others ???

how can you sell any, by my count you only have four. i'm sure bare minimun for a cgn member is six or more. i think keeping the 06 and add three more. that way your safley over the six gun rule.

a 260 is the minimum cartridge that I personally would consider for use on moose. So, if you're not planning on hunting moose frequently, I'd suggest dumping the '06

I'd also consider tossing the 30-30 in favour of a 45-70 - still brush friendly, still available in a quick-handling lever carbine, and perfect for moose, or deer, depending how you load em

What happened to the .32 Jon? ;-)

I think you should bring them all over here and swap them for a .300 Win mag, then you can shoot whatever the heck you want. And I will show you how to reload that one instead of the .260.........

I have a 458win that I use for polar bears and whale. Nothing wrong with getting more guns for the collection. A true gunnut does not need to justify a new gun, just to have it is all the justification that's needed ;)

keep them all...

I would keep them all but if one had to go, I would let go of the 30-30 and keep the 30-06 which is a lot more versatile.

If not, buy another one.. :D

Only 5 or 6 guns?? Thought makes me shudder!!!! ;) :D At last count I had 11, 22 Rimfires, and I'm not even sure how many centerfires. Having another CF built as we speak, and have my eye on another HB 6mm Remington again. It is an illness, but I'm not really searching for a cure. LOL. If you feel you must dump one though, I'm with those who suggested you lose the 30-30. Regards, Eagleye.

If you really feel you need to get rid of one, then ditch the 30-30. Or you could get rid of the 30-30 and the 30-06 and get yourself a stainless Ruger in 350 Rem Mag ...

:D
