Wondering what your recomendations are for shot size for Turkeys, seems to me a few years ago Remington overed a "mixed bag" of #4 and 2's or was it 5's and 4's?

Any guidance appreciated

Cheers

I like 4's. Good distance, lots of smackin power.

I use Win Supreme ### Turkey loads. 2&3/4 # 4, 1&5/8 oz load.

They're dead before it hits them!

I hunt turkey in Ontario, so #'s 4,5,6 are all we are allowed to use. I have tried a few & find my Mossberg patterns best with Winchester Supreme 3" #6. I would use smaller shot if it was allowed. Best advise is to pattern your shotgun & see what it shoots the best.

I have not found a combo that works with any #4 shot at all.

However : In a 12 gauge load,

#5-6 copper shot in a 2 oz. load tends to shoot well out of a .660 Dia. choke.
Hevi shot in #6 seems to shoot better out of a .660-.665 rated for Hevi shot.

20 gauge loads, #4-5-6 copper shot and a turkey choke I would not shoot out past 30 yards.
However with #6 in Hevi shot 1 3/8 oz. with a .550 -.555 with turn the gun into a 40 yard easy. Make sure the choke is rated for hevi shot.

Indian Creek seems to be one of the leaders in the turkey choke field in both 12 and 20 gauge...

Same here. These pattern great out of my 870 with a 28" barrel and an undertaker turkey choke.

i have a box of winchester #4 shot with a picture of a turkey on the box. so that is good enough for me.

Don't forget to pattern your shotgun. Turkey loads like any ammo of different brands have distinct patterns.
I went through 5 brands of various shot sizes and found one particular load that my gun loved. Some were right off the map:D You want a tight pattern that hits where you aim.
I use a weaver removable half saddle base on my shotgun which allows me to mount my Bushnell trophy red dot. With the red dot you can dial the pattern and where ever you point that dot the tighest part of the pattern hits.
