So I recently bought a Chinese made SKS, several things caught my attention:

first of all it has no factory number. All it has is a serial number: 01106XX

It comes with a milled trigger guard which signifies early made SKS (Before 1965), and comes with spiked bayo and a bunch of features that signifies late production....so it looks like a normal Chinese made SKS, but milled bayo, and no factory code.....(all matching)...I collect SKS's, so this is kind of interesting...

Thanks!

Could it be one of the civilian ones that were imported a number of years ago? I keep hearing that the ones in stores now are the real military ones, unlike the civilian ones that used to be around or something like that.

I bought a marstar Chinese sks recently, I'm just going to use it as a cheap shooter so I wasn't too worried, but I also couldn't find anything online about the origins of the rifle. It's the same deal as yours, just a series number with no additional markings.

These rifles have been produce for underground use by none official military or subversive forces.

They are rare and greatly collectable.

Ack, red rifles with no marks are for underground groups in politically sensitive areas. I had an Intell brief on this during the cold war. Typically the USSR or China or any other maker would make these for supply to an underground movement that would hurt them politically if marked rifles were found by the government of that area. Think Communist government undermining a Socialist Friendly government that they wanted the local communists to take over. If the rifle is found or captured they could shrug their shoulders and say, "those dirty Chinese" (if they were Soviets and vice versa). Remember the commie block was no where near monolothic. China hated Vietnam, USSR hated China and Nobody liked Yugoslavia.

Also, early start ups in new commie countries usually started building rifles before they had proof and factory marks. I believe that early Chinese SKS carry Soviet marks less a factory mark as the factory did not have a makr in place before the first builds. There is a internet page on the SKS that details every known mark or combination of marks.

I bought an SKS at Lever back in 1997 and it was Chinese, had serial numbers like this one, was all matching but had a blade bayonet. There was no markings to signify Chinese but I know for sure it was Chinese.

finally i have an sks that is actually rare!mine has a red rough stock i guess it would be chu wood by other descriptions i have gathered.

I have one that sounds like this that I bought around 2002 or so. Shoots very well, blade bayonet, treaded in barrel (not pinned), serial number only but it does look as though the factory markings might have been removed. I can just make out what looks like the tip of one of the points of the triangle that would have the factory number in it.
