Newbie question!
I assume that for knocking down steel there is no need for high-end, expensive, 3.5", high velocity, hunting slugs.
what would you recommend? where from? how much?
(I currently shoot a Nova 18" smooth bore, GTA area)

Much appreciated.

No slugs on steel at an IPSC 3 gun...lead shot only.

Slugs are for paper

I'll check with NROI Canada...but at the last 3 gun I was at...a slug on steel was a DQ

Rule 10.4.8 is poorly written but it is a match DQ.

5.5.9 Competitors must not shoot at metal targets with steel or tungsten based shot or slugs (see Rule 10.4.8).

The wording could be interpreted as steel or tungsten slugs...as oppsed to all slugs. I'll post the reply from NROI Canada

Cheers

i have only used slug on paper...steel i use #4 shot.

here is what i use...

clays = #7-7.5 (cheapest kind there is)
plates / steel = #4 buckshot (27 pellets) use low recoil tactical if u can find...
paper = rifled slug (wichester power point) i use this in my 20" RC barrel (IC).

Im a big fan of Sellier and Belloit (sp?) slugs, very accurate, work very well. They seem to drop pepper poppers no problem. Wolf are also cheap and effective along w/ federal. I wouldn't be buying Challengers at $2 a slug.
