What speeds with 178gn Amax in .308 ?

Are you supplying any prefit Savage Barrels? If not how much to rebarrel my 10FP? I have been thinkin about converting it to the .284 to test out the short action before investing in a full build. I am really set on the Badger action, but it is only short, win magnum, and lapua mag sizes, No standard Long.

Do I really need to worry about throat erosion with a 7mm wsm as much as everyone leads me to believe? Last season I put 1500 rounds through my .308 so barrel life is an issue.

I handle Pac-Nor and they do make Savage pre-fits. I also have Krieger 7mm heavy barrels in stock specifically for guys building 7mm's to shoot the heavy 180 and 190 Match bullets. These require a gunsmith installation, but in my opinon, this is a better way to go anyway.

As to barrel wear, yes it is a fact of life. 7WSM Count on 750 - 1000 accurate rounds. I would suggest going to a 284 and that will yield almost double that

FYI Hornady is making a 178gr BTHP with a .530 BC, higher than the Amax, their ammo is rated @ 2775 f/s

Thanks Obtunded, I will give you a shout when I get my thoughts together. I was thinking about a cheap rebarrel for my savage to tide me over until I can do a full build. Plus it gives me an opportunity to try out the .284 in the AI mag COAL. I have found mags that will feed at 2.995 which is decent but Id rather try than be disappointed after spending thousands on a custom build.
