just curious as to what spotting scope the people here are using?

just to keep this simple, i don't need huge replies (although they are very helpful most of the time), i'm just looking for the brand/ model and/or link to the spotting scope you are using, as well as the maximum distance you use it for.

*and where was it made (if you know).

thanks everybody :)

Konus 20-60x80mm from championshooters, on a manfrotto tripod. Used it to 600m and 600yd so far. Very happy with it, only concern is perhaps questionable weather resistance.

Chinese cheapo import called Olivon (google for website). Mine is 20-60x with a big 85mm objective. I would say it runs out of steam at 300m. But I got the scope plus a serviceable full-height tripod for about $370.

On paper at 900m can you see where your bullet hit the target?

NO body can using a spotting scope the only feasible way of seeing bullet holes in a target at 900m is using the Hubble Space Telescope or electronic systems using remote video feed scope or Doppler radar .No but you can observe the bullet vortex and mirage.

Which scope depends on the end use. I shoot tr (irons and sling 300-1000) and the best power for this is usually 20x, depending on the scope. I use a 65mm Pentax with a fixed 20XW eyepiece. I can see 13 targets wide at 900m and it has huge eye relief. I have looked at a lot of top line scopes but when I saw this one I ordered the next day. Superb scope.

Konus spot 80 20-60x80 bullet holes out to 300 yds. for the longer ranges. For the shorter ranges i use a unertl 20x60. both are very clear. The Unertl gets the most use now as age and eysite are now the major factors.
Unless you have a pocket full of money and just want the more expensive optics, there are a few cheaper models that are very good.

U.S Optics 15x40 with a 1 moa reticle. These are FFP so the reticle works at all powers for calling shots. This matches my rifle scopes reticle.
We use them well beyond the 1 mile mark. With a digital camera behind the ocular have taken movies of the bullets contrails.
I like them because they have long eye relief so my eye glasses do not touch the ocular.
Made in the US of A and priced at $1300.00

Pentax PF-65ED 20-60x 65mm. Not bad and the price was reasonable at the time.

That being said if I have my 7mm wildcat rifle with me, I just use the NF 12-42x on it as a spotting scope. :D

Like Ian, I also have a Pentax 65mm ED spotting scope. Compared to some of the very best Euro products, this little guy holds its own. The key is the eyepiece. The glass on the spotting scope body is superb.

Epoxy7, the standard zoom is quite decent and for the money a great deal. However, it does loose ALOT of resolution light and clarity when you go past 35X. Still better then a whole rack of gear but definitely not in the top end of the pack. At least mine did. Was horrid for eyeglass users too.

I swapped the orig zoom for a zoom from the 80mm scope. Made a significant improvement. Was able to resolve the bark on a pine tree at 2000yds on a clear winter day.

The better grade fixed mag lenses that Ian talked about are AMAZING. They should as they cost as much/more then some spotting scopes.

Pentax is regarded as making one of the best fixed mag eyepieces in the world. There are no shortage of birders that use these eyepieces on their Euro scopes.

I am going to sell the 65mm scope body and zoom eyepiece for a 80mm. If anyone is interested in an armoured, compact, light spotter for shooting or hunting, PM me.

Going with remote video so that I can spot at most any distance even when mirage rears its head.

Most definitely made offshore :)..
