I am considering designing a high see-through scope mount, but have no idea what steel should be used. It is going to clamp onto the receiver on both sides and remain in place fixed with friction only, which means the material has to be springy.

Also, while we are on topic, which steel should be used to manufacture a hand spring for a Webley RIC revolver? It's an L-shaped spring which connects to the hammer and pushes the hand that turns the cylinder.

Not too sure that it will work to well when it comes to holding zero. What's it going to be mounting on? when I make mounts its usuall out of 4140 or 316sst, something thats good a rigid.(not exactly "springy")

Is a round or flat spring? If its flat your going to need a piece of spring steel. Cut and bend to size. Don't over bend it past where it needs to be. If you do you get to have the chance to make another one:D If its a round wire spring, best bet is to find a custom spring shop and get them to bend one for you. Not sure where in Ontario you are but there is a good place in Kitchener.

"...fixed with friction only..." It'll move under recoil. In any case, see-through mounts tend to be too high for a good 'cheek weld'.

For the spring, use spring steel like AISI 9255.

For the mount use either aluminum or 4140 steel.
