Hey guys,
I am currently building a long range 308 rifle.
Will be mounting a sightron 6-24x50 on it.
Planning to shoot up to and over 1000 yards with it.....basically want to shoot as far as my abilities will let me.
Wondering what taper I should get on my scope base (20MOA, 15MOA, etc...)
Thanks
Ben

the s3 has 100moa/29.1mil of adjustment.

from what i've seen/read, get a 20moa base so that as you dial up for longer distance, the reticle is closer to the center of the glass where the optical quality is supposed to be better then at or near the edges of the glass.

It will depend on your rifle. My Savage LE2B and 3.5-15x NXS do fine out to 1000 with a 20 minute rail. But my ATRS 300WM and 5.5-22x NXS didn't like it's 0 MOA rail and was zeroed at 200m at +70 minutes. But a return trip to ATRS resulted in a fancy +40 MOA which resulted in a nice comfy +30 zero.

Zero the rifle with normal bases (throw Weavers on for economy) and see where you are in the internal adjustment of your scope. Run your numbers through a ballistic program and see how many minutes you need to get to your desired destination (or better yet, a couple of hundred yards past your desired destination, because you won't stop there). So if you need 40 minutes to get where you're going, and you're zeroed at +40 minutes and you have 100 minutes in your scope then I would throw on a +30 rail so that you're zeroed at +10 minutes and you'll be at +50 minutes at your destination and that will leave you 50 more minutes to push your boundaries.
