What the most accurate bullet you’ve used in .270win? What velocities are you getting

Hey all, I’ve been working a load for my Weatherby Vanguard 2 .270win and have tried a few different bullets and powders. I’ve got a decent hunting load but want more accuracy. (My OCD haha) current shooting .75” which is great but my 30-06 load is dialed in to 5 shots through a big ragged hole and I want the same for this .270 😬😬

Don’t need a LR load for this rifle, under 200y some suggested trying 110gr? Anyone try that light?

Current both 130gr accubond and game kings shoot .75 with 4064. Went though a pound of h4831sc and it never was as good as 4064, can anyone suggest a different powder to give a try?

Just just to reiterate I know my load is fine for hunting, I just enjoy the process of perfecting its my therapy haha

Take care all

I have the identical rifle, and it actually prefers the 150 grain round nosed. Not exactly a long distance shooter, but it works great inside 200 yards.

I read an article just yesterday on that round in a .270win I didn’t believe it but they found it the most accurate too! Beat out Nosler BT and Barnes in 130 and 140!

I can usually count on Ballistic-tips to shoot a little better than Accubonds. You can also try the Berger Classic Hunters. Some experimenting with COL is likely in order as well. Or; you might be maxed out already.

I’ve got one also that loves the 130 PowerPoint cheapie Winchester It shoots so well I don’t even bother reloading for it
I’ve also had good luck with the 150 ballistic tip and 7828

In my Browning BBR 270 Win 22" barrel the 140 Sierra Gameking does real well. I use IMR 4350 with a CCI-200. My vel is around 2900 ft/sec. generally get appx 5/8" five shot groups at 100 yds.

I have a Vanguard S2 in 270wsm...I was in the same position, shooting totally acceptable hunting groups but not touching. The issue was the same for Hornady interlock, Nosler ballistic tips, and partitions. What I found (and afterwards heard from other S2 owners) was that factory and published load data seated the bullet too deep in the case. I did some testing with a spent cartridge and bullet to find the point where the bullet touches the rifling and backed off a touch. The final product looks a bit weird and long but now all shots touch at 200yds. I haven't shot much long distance but as long as I'm using the correct bullet for the job, I have total confidence out to 400+.

Edit: have you tried adjusting the trigger down?

You have the right bullet, accubond, and potential to tighten-up your groups. Maybe try different seating depths, primer or narrow it down to another powder that may have potential.

I have a Vanguard S2 in .270 Win and it likes IMR 4831 Powder and Sierra Game King 130 BTSP Bullets

Velocity is 3150 FPS and if I feel good can get three holes touching at 100 yards.

Regards

Many years ago, a Winchester M70 in 270, 48.5 grains of IMR4895 pushing a 90 grain Sierra HP gave me a cloverleaf group at 100 yards. Now, I can't even see 100 yards!

Anyone play with 110gr Barnes ttsx?

i've worked up a load with RL 17 and a 110 ttsx out of a 20" 270. will go under an inch at 220 yds but I feel i'm on the ragged edge pressure wise so am going to try and find the next node down with it.

129 LRX and RL 17 at around 3000fps has also been a pretty consistant combo over several different 270's I have owned.

Chris

I have a Vanguard Lazerguard in 30-06, and an S2 in 270. My 270 just dotes on the 140 Accubond, seated .020" off the lands and chased
by 60 grains of Vihtavuori N165. Clocks just over 3000 fps. Groups are a ragged hole at 100, and around 1.2" at 200. Eagleye.

I've had some pretty good results with IMR4350 and 130gr Ballistic Tips in my Savage Axis. 53gr and 54gr both shot subMOA, I think the 53gr was just a tad better though.

Working on a load for 150gr partitions now, haven't gotten that dialed in yet (or I was just fatigued and shooting poorly last time I was at the range, had guys going to town with their ARs on either side of me so the flinching from their muzzle blasts wasn't helping anything...)
