With respect to Pave's post, I would not recommend building your first AR or one that will see serious amounts of use. For those that say "mine works fine" I say fair enough, however it is not a serious measure of a rifles reliability. If one took a large sampling of various manufacturers and subjected them to some sort of measurable test, I have no doubt that parts guns and Dlask guns would not make it to the final stages. As always YMMV. The rifles which I have had the least amount of issues with are Colt's and Bushmaster. Colt's I take exception to "some" of their specifications which I have gone into before, Bushmasters seem to suffer from excessive windage issues, something I can live with and fix. You will not be unhappy with an Armalite or DPMS either, though I have yet to understand why an M4 type carbine needs a tight match chamber (DPMS). The Armalite gets the ultimate in hassle free ownership award as a result of their distributor Wolverine Supplies. I'm sure there are members with more professional experiences who should chime in here too.

I strongly believe that anyone, with enough help from the collective knowledge here on the board and on ARFcom, can build an AR15 that rivals any of the brand names.
That being said, I must also mention that the proper parts must be used. No DPMS, only Armalite, Colt, Bushmaster, Diemaco. CMT uppers are to spec. The proper tools must be employed, nothing makeshift. If one has ANY DOUBTS about whether or not they're doing something right, they should contact those in the "Know" immediately.
As someone on here once said, a retarded monkey can build an AR15.

You didn't say why you wanted it. Competition or just fun.
If you want it for competition then listen to Sparrow, a guy who competes with his. If you want it for fun then build away and you will see lots of posts on the best parts to buy.
I built my own (with some hands on help from folks here) but I don't compete.
EDIT: If you do decide to build for fun make sure you ask questions if in doubt, no matter how dumb they sound to you. Better a dumb question asked than an injury or money lost for no reason.
