The ammo is so cheap and plentiful I want to buy a semi to shoot it in for fun. I have no experience with any of the russian rifles but have shot alot of rifles like sl8/ ar's. All high end stuff. Can anyone reco a mid range semi auto that is accurate that shoots this ammo

For price and quality you can hardly beat CZ or CSA 858 rifles. The latter comes with chrome lined bores in 7.62 x 39 in response to plentiful and cheap, but with corrosive primers, S&B surplus ammo. Another higher priced semi auto alternative would be the Ruger mini14 but their groove diameter is .308, so shooting military surplus ammo with their .310 diameter bullets is not advised. My advice, go with the CSA 858 rifle.

x2 on the CZ 858 - I have the non restricted version and have not done a single thing to dress it up but others have really added lots of stuff to make it look much more Black Rifle-ish if that is to your taste. As far as accuracy is concerned, I rate this rifle a long way ahead of the SKS and, for that matter, the Mini 30. I have almost two cases through mine and it remains 100% reliable and as good today as it was when I bought it.

Pounded a 2ftx3ft target 8 out of 10 shots---rapid fire with an EOtech. Measured distance was 542 yards. First shot was a 'ranger' and the last was a called miss. Did this with a CZ858. Excellent bang for your buck!
