Looking for some input from you guys and girls,

Looking to buy my first firearm going to get .22LR just not sure what would work best.

The Local range is only 25 Yard indoor.

So I am trying to figure out if I should get a GSG 1911, Chippa 1911 or just got with the .22LR rifle. I think i might bore of the rifle quickly as 25 yards isnt that far for a rifle. Eventually I would get it but just want what will be more fun for a longer time due to the limit of funds might not be able to pick up a second one for a few months.

thoughts?

Everyone needs a .22 rifle and depending on where you live gopher season is very soon and would give you another reason to go rifle. A CZ 452 and you are set for life. Your kids can hand it down to their kids..
For handgun, I would pick any flavor of Ruger MkIII. Don't believe the people that say they are hard to disassemble, they are, once then they are very easy. The Chiappa is pretty junky IMO, I don't really like the materials used in the GSG (pot metal) but people seem to like them.
Good luck with your search and good choice with starting with .22

A rifle is probably the better starting point, but if you are stuck on handguns and have a local range to shoot at, get one of those first. Either way you will end up with a .22LR long gun somewhere along the way. If you think 25yds is too close for a rifle, shoot smaller targets from field positions. It can be as challenging as you want to make it.

The big decider has to be if you want to go shooting outside of the range environment. The rifle allows you to go anywhere you want to shoot it (assuming discharging a firearm is legal), while you are stuck at the range with a handgun. A secondary consideration is that you can get a decent rimfire rifle for much less than any handgun. The cheapest decent rimfire handgun is a Ruger for a bit over $300 used. You can get many rimfire rifles for less than $200, leaving enough for an OK quality rimfire scope as well.

Either way, you are doing it the right way by starting with a .22LR. It is a superb training round that is tons of fun to shoot and lets you get all the practice you need to perfect your technique for cheap.

Hey there! Two months ago I purchased a S&W M&P 15-22 for under $600. I've fired over 400 rounds to date and love it!:dancingbanana: Yes it is restricted but this is what I wanted. Fun to shoot and cheap to shoot all day:)

I guess it all comes down to your interests. If your a "tactical/tacticool" kind of shooter that enjoys dressing up your firearm, get a Ruger SR22 or a S&W M&P 15-22. If you're the hunter type, you can pick up a Ruger 10-22 which comes in different comfigurations- these guns are very affordable! If you're a 1911 fan, then I would go with the GSG 1911.

Have fun and shoot safe:)

Thanks for the advice.

If I go with the rifle it will probably be a savage mark II one of the stores here has it on for cheap. I just wanted sure if I would get bored with shooting a 25yard targer. I guess i can always take the scope off :p yes gopher season is coming but if it doesnt stop snowing here I dont think we will have a season.

Personally I dont like the look of the rugers i like the 1911 locks i dont know it's just me i guess. Well i will just have to wait and see i guess I have a feeling i will probably end up with the rifle for the summer and then in the winter get the hand gun when you are stuck inside since it is -30.

Pot metal... have you even handled or shot one?? because it's makes the chippa look like junk..

I say buy what you want and don't let anyone else tell you other wise..

If you can regularly shoot penny sized groups offhand at 25yds with or without a scope, then you can be bored with the rifle. Until then, you have work to do. Just because the distance is short doesn't mean it has to be easy.
