What to do with a Bubba'ed mosin

So here's the story. I foolishly bought a Bubba'ed mosin nagant thinking that I should restore it, but my search for parts has been a fruitless endeavor.

I was getting ready to sell it, but i considered turning it into a carbine clone. Although I'm not sure if it's worth it, bubba really ruined this one.
The Good The hex receiver is intact, the bore seems fine and the action is all there.
The Bad The barrel has been cut to 20" and crowned, the stock is butchered and the front sight is missing.
The Ugly This thing is really ugly.

So is it worth it to even try turning it into a carbine clone, or should i just give up on it and sell it for parts?

You could get her back to a solid state. I did a similar project an a beat to holy s**t 91/30 with a trashed crown years back actually.
You will likely not find an M38/M44 stock on its own for anywhere near a price to make it financially feasible though.

There are slip on barrel rings you can buy to fit a cut down mosin barrel. Brass stacker makes them in USA. You would just need to find a used front sight post to slide into the dovetail.

https://brassstacker.com/mosin-nagant/Mosin-Nagant-9130-Front-Sight-Adapter-MN-FSAR.html

Getting them into Canada/shipped to Canada can be a little tricky but there is always a way....Just make sure you read those instructions CAREFULLY as to where you want the sight to sit so you know which diameter one to buy.

If you can find a beater full length mosin stock set for cheap you may be able to at least make it LOOK like an M38 with the aftermarket barrel front sight adapter ring.
Could be a fun project actually.

You would have to drift out the barrel band retaining springs, drill a new hole in the new location on the cut stock, carve a small channel into the stock so the springs could be depressed and allow the bands to slip down the upper guard and stock etc

All a matter of how cheap can you get a 91/30 stock set with barrel bands, front caps and springs for now! Also expect some f**kery if you cut the length of the stock itself down for the shortened barrel with the forward barrel band as it will now be in a thicker position on the stock (moved rearward due to it being now cut shorter and re-located). You could always use a heavy duty black zip tie on the spring if the band is too small to slide down to the new location.

It won't belong in a museum but it will look a hell of lot better than that abortion...

How is the bore?

Doesn’t ati make a Monte Carlo style Mosin stock, or maybe I’m thinking of the sks one. That’s the route I’d go with it, seeing as the barrel has been cut the damage is done. If it’s a good shooting rifle you might as well drill and tap it for a good mount and throw a scope on it and have some fun with it.

Probably better off to sporterize in the ATI/Archangel stock since the front sight looks like it was cut off.

Would be neat with one of those repro scope mounts.

Maybe thread the barrel and add a break.

A hex mosin really isn't worth a bunch of money so I dunno.

Hello,

That looks like it could be Finnish, maybe a Cub. The thing is that the front sight is missing, as you note.

Can you get better pics of it?

Regards,

I can see that buying this was a mistake, and I hope that someone will take it on trade.
Maybe I can trade it to someone who wants to bubba a mosin to prevent another one from being destroyed.

I don't think I'll bubba it further as that just isn't my style, Even my AR-15 has a walnut stock. but if one of you wants to have it i'll probably be putting it up on the EE.

And to josh smith, Here's your pictures

I should have just walked away. Oh well, lesson learned.

That stock was a finnish fingerjoint m91 stock. I know a woodworker that can detach the fingerjoint and put a replacement original length (or even m27 etc) front end on it... It might be worth something to someone trying to desporterize a finn mosin with an original barrel.

The barrelled action is only good for a fun bubba project. That's a Tikka barrel btw.

What is your selling price?

Id rather trade it for an unmolested mosin as that was what I wanted in the first place. But I'll let it go pretty cheap, Although I have no Idea what this is worth. Maybe $180? any suggestions as to what this thing is worth?

Although I've had this monstrosity in my safe for a few years, so it might be on the EE tonight.

ATI sucks. Mine never did fit my Mosin, even after much dremel work. Mine is bubba’ed worse than that. Shoots 174gr out of Lapua brass into 1 1/2”@100M (3rnds).

It is a cut down M91 Finned Mosin. Might have been a Cub. The filled sling hanger mount looks more commercial than bubba. The trigger looks blued, Finn triggers were in the white. Might be a blued Finn trigger, might be just regular Russian. No front sight though, so maybe a bubba...
Interesting gun. Someone will want it.
