what to do

I have a ss Remington long action not (Magnum)was thinking 6.5x284 or 6.5-06 or even just the 260.I have a 260ai now.The barrel will be 26in with next to no taper.Picking up a HS stock.
What would you build?I am leaning to the 6.5-06.

Go with the 6.5-06. I shot a friends'. And really liked it. Gonna build one for myself one day.

6.5 X 284 gets lots of rave but barrel life is kinda sad.

280 AI- lots of good 7mm bullets out there, neck down lapua .30-'06 brass...Swede sounds pretty good too...

6.6-06, 6.5-06 AI, 6.5 Gibbs, all good cartridges. Or open the bolt face and go 264 Win Mag, another fun cartridge. Or even 6.5x55 AI or 6.5 Arch. - dan

um, yeah... I read the OP to read he alread has a .260AI, but didn't have a barrel for this build yet. carry on!

Good choice, That's what Im am getting built right now. Ive started to size brass for it - 25-06 -270 win or 30-06....so far so good. Just depends on how much trimming you want to do . I understand there may be some neck turning involved if you want to use 30-06 brass.

Just an up date.putting the heavy barrel on the shelf for now.I picked up a new sf 260 barrel.That is what I will be putting together.
