I have a Ranch Hand (12" barrel lever gun) in 44 mag and would like some advice on some "commonly available in your local gun shop" ammo for it.

Any recommendations on a light target round to get used to the thing at the range? Also a full power load for its intended use, which is to lean against a big rock while I'm turning over the smaller ones out in the forest.

Is there an advantage to going to a more specialized ammo like Buffalo Bore or something over the more common names for a gun like this?

Thanks!

I have been using the same Remington .44 magnum ammunition for many years. Why .... well, it's because they work. These are or were the most powerful factory ammunition that I could find. I have taken many deer and lost none. Bullet performance is always deadly. I believe that most factory ammo is made so it can be used in both handguns and rifles hence the lower power. The Remington ammo is my choice. I shoot an early Ruger semi auto rifle. I believe the bullet code (240 grns.) is RMG4 or something similar. I will look after and correct this if needed. Good luck, Dave
