I was curious about what kind of optics could be put on the handguard rail of my SKS with a Tapco stock? I doubt a regular scope can be used that far away?

How did it work for you? Basically a red dot has no magnification just a red dot to make your target easier to sight, correct? Did this work ok at 100yrds or would it be more for close range?

It worked well. Yes, no magnification, but faster target acquisition. Good off the rest too.

I have the Tapco SKS stock and hand guard and I'm not sure if I'd trust any "precision" optics on it. It's just too flimsy IMO. It is an SKS though so precision isn't really a key issue.

I think if anything the red-dot might be the only way to go on the handguard. Anything with zoom forget it!! Go with the Choate mount for that..

I found that the mount with a tasco red dot was a bit high for the cheek weld, a micro dot would be nice, but worth twice as much as the gun.

a 5MOA red dot would conceal 5Inches of the target at 100yards. So it would be more challenging. But that front sight ain't exactly tiny either.

Very true. On the tiniest dot setting, it doesn't block much. I always sight it in to be just a fraction low, so I don't conceal the target.

reddot on my tapco, works fine & quick to use, not exactly precision but it is good match for an sks. I can hit a 2' gong at 200 yds most of the time with mine.
