so doing really good cleaning of my new to me p20, and cant get the bolt back in. what trick am i missing? pictures as reference would be very helpful

squires bingham p-20, armscore m20... all the guns with the same action.

got the bolt in now but everytime i assemble it fully the bolt wont function

You have to trip the disconnector as the bolt is reinserted. There is a little hole in the disconnector, usually there is an arrow pointing the direction that the disconnector must be tripped when reassembling.
You have figured out how the firing pin retains the cocking handle, and how it is not a good idea to remove the outer cocking handle sleeve? Or if you did, have you found the little ball detent yet?

i did make the mistake of sliding the cocking handle sleeve off by accident, luckily i found the ball before it disappeared lol.

got it all working properly, had to hit the firing pin forward with a screwdriver after bolt was inserted all the way. no idea why but that seemed to make it function when assembled

Yes, it will sometimes hang up on reassembly. I found that these rifles do work best when cleaned, and they are not the easiest .22 to strip and reassemble. When I was running my shop, I did notice that firing pin breakage did occur. Also, on some the trigger frame is synthetic, and the various pivot pins are retained by having splined ends. Disassemble and reassemble too often and the pins would work loose. In addition, the safety is steel, and the heel of the trigger that it blocks is aluminum. Wear can result in the safety becoming uncertain. Most of the rifles I worked on were used hard and given minimal care.

i clean my guns after every shooting usually just out of habit. not the easiest but i think after a few more times i should get it down pat. good to know about the pins though, i will have to be careful with them
