what type is this?

it is a hydra shok round. I loaded up a bunch some years back for shooting Bluefin tuna when they got near the boat. loaded in a 357 they are very hard hitting and killed the tuna in seconds and left a big hole many times when they went through.

I'm not at home now so can't measure.

The round was given to me by a friend. I think it came from his father.

mg34 says it's a Hydra Shok bullet, which is what I initially thought too. Except I didn't know that Hydra Shoks were available as bullets for reloading. It's a very old round! The colour is also wrong. Hydra Shoks i have are copper jacketed with the lead post exposed in the center.
Your round looks either completely lead or has the blue Nyclad coating (which is also a Federal product), can't tell from my screen.

It is probably a home reloaded round that your friend's dad made. Maybe ask him about it?

It's a lead bullet.

My friend's dad used to reload. I'll ask him if he knows.

the hydros I reloaded some time ago were all lead. at that time they were listed as law enforcement use only and I had 100 of them to reload. it has been some time since I have seen them as they are very hard to get for some reason.

Looks like a Hydra Shock post in there. But the first one looks too long to fit most 38 Spl chambers. Would fit a 357 chamber. Or, could be an upside down hollow base wadcutter.

Do not shoot these in a 38. Might be loaded to 357 pressures.
