I have a Rem 700 chambered in 458 win Mag. Plan on making a second barrel in 416. the barrel now is 22 3/4" long and .780 at the muzzle.
Any idea what to go after or what contour number by who ever that would be similar to the one I have now in 458?

Or What type of barrel or dimensions on your 416?

The .416 is roughly 91% as big as the .458, so it would follow that the barrel contour of .780" could also be reduced by 9% to about .708", which approximates a #5 sporter contour according to my barrel chart indicating a muzzle of .700" and a chamber diameter of .900". If it was me, I would probably opt for a heavier contour to help reduce muzzle flip, as I prefer short barrels on serious rifles.
