What type of bullet to use

Well here goes the same starting line......

I am new to shooting handguns. I have a CZ75 B and a S&W 686.

When I go out to shoot i just assumed I should use a FMJ, there would be copper fouling and clean the gun after each use.
BUT

Then I start reading thread that say to use FMJ in this gun and a wadcutter in this gun and lead wrecks these guns....confusing a bit.

Anyone care to clarify. ??

Seriously, buy the ammo you can find the cheapest..... and fire away!

The only problem you may wind up running into (with those 2 guns) is that your range may have restrictions on what type of ammo you can shoot!

Buy a coupla cases and shoot em' off! Once you get a couple hundred rounds down the "pipe" start looking for the brand or bullet weight that works the best in your guns..... or buy a couple of reloading manuals, a press & start up kit and start "rollin your own"

try these winclean beb(base enclosed bullit) ammo....it's a fact it's cleaner than ordinary fmj.

i did the comparo, and yes, winclean leave the barrel substancialy cleaner then generic winchester or federal ammoo.

which round to use?

If fouling is the concern , then simply make sure you clean the firearms after every use . I shoot anything in 9mm through my P226 ,and Winchester fmj s in .38sp and .357 out of my 686 . Just have to have to clean em after ya shoot em . (i never had to use a wire brush on any firearm in my locker ,including
shotguns)

Don't worry about any kind of ammo "wearing" or "damaging" the barrel. Barrels wear out eventually, but it take tens or hundreds of thousands of rounds. You will end up spending 10 to 50 times the cost of the gun, in ammo costs, before you wear out the barrel.

We generally use lead for target loads in revolvers and plated in everything else. And occasionally there is jacketed for high velocity revolver or pistol loads.



Also, cleaning is over rated. Run a patch down the barrel to get rid of powder residue, oil and put away.

I use jacketed bullets in my 9mm, and I also use cast lead bullets. I clean them occasionally, but not every time I shoot (about every 500 rounds to ensure function, not because there is a problem with fouling in the barrel).
I shoot a lot of lead bullets in my .357 and .38 Specials, and I clean them rarely. Again, about every 500 rounds or so to ensure function, but not because the barrels are leaded.
