what type of shot for skeet?

Many of the ontario members would likely know Lloyd Irvine, (Irv's shooting supplies)

He likes to tell a story about a shoot off between Braun and Hartman, it goes something like this.

Barney and Lee were shooting of for a title in the NSSA world skeet championships, I can't remember, I think it was 12 ga. title, but it may have been HOA anyways they were in a shoot off and in those days you shot regular rounds of skeet until someone missed, not like today with the shoot off doubles.

I think Lloyd told me it got into the 23-24 round range, I could be wrong, anyways, Lee was a factory shooter at the time and had flunkies running around bringing him more shells and such, where as Barney went a got one box at a time from a store or something down the strip, Lloyd could see that barney was tiring from the walking back and forth so he offered to do the running, anyways, lloyd said that after each round pretty well he asked lloyd to get him a different shot size or brand, never stuck with one during that particular shoot off.

Anyways after all those rounds, Lee Braun finally turned to Barney and said he would be happy to be declared co-champions with barney, as he was an old man and getting tired. Barney agreed, though he would have rather won, he was super competitive.

That was the last year that they allowed co-champions they changed the rules for next year so that you had to shoot off until someone missed.

However I don't believe that the shoot off double were introduced until after the doubles event was conceived of and put into place.

I have no factual on paper references for the above so if you know any different chime in.

Heck, even I know Irv, and I'm way out here!!
I actually only met him by phone a few years back when I ordered a shell catcher for an 1100 from him, then cleaned him out of 28 gauge hulls and wads!!:D
great guy to talk to.....
