Hey, I am doing some research on SKS and I know I want to get one in the near future but im confused what you would call what im looking for. To my knowledge here is what I am looking for:

- Russian SKS 1950-1956 don't care which plant it was made at, (unless you can prove one is better than the other)?
- I know I want a red arctic birch stock and blued metal with a silver bolt.
- So I really don't mind one set of ###xx on the stock if it gets me a new stock that's in excellent condition.
- I would really like to avoid any ugly electro-pencil marks on the metal.
- I don't care if theres a small refurb marking or two on the metal and wood.
- I need a chrome lined bore because this will be a shooter.
- Must be magazine pinned with the black or silver rivet or have the follower rod.

So there you have it, overall I am just looking for a rifle in excellent condition. I know these rifles are over 60 years old now and have spent that time in crates but I would like to avoid any dents, scratches, dings, rust or blueing loss as much as possible. So what would you call this rifle? Is it a refurb with just a replaced stock in excellent condition? If a rifle has a set of ###### and then the new number in the stock is it still considered all matching? I am getting confused with all this "unissued", "all matching", refurbished terminology. Thanks

Send these specs to Vlad at Westrifle....he will give you exactly what you want, promptly with decades of service and exp with both the SKS and the people who want to own them. Very competitive pricing and top notch to do business with.

I bought mine from there and was in the same boat as you. You won't regret working with Westrifle for ur SKS purchase.

Some of the tula made sks's are great, but the izhevsks are harder to find, and always well made.
My 54 Izhevsk is just as accurate as my chinese sks: both are excellent for sks.

I suggest the 53 izhevsk refurb that weimajack is listing at $180 as the best deal out there.
The 53 is less common than the 54 izhevsk, btw.

chrome vs non chromed barrel for the sks dont change much you still have to clean your rifle , the non chromed one is supposedly more accurate i have 2 tula 1950 with some really nice rifling

The electro-pencil is part of the refurb process and you will find it on most rifles. There are places you cannot stamp, such as the gas tube and piston.
