im just curious on the type of would that the sks(obvi russian) and the ak-47 use on the wooden part of their stocks, i have been looking arpund and found nothing,

Artic birch is the main one. There is cherry and walnut that was used. You see after the war there were many reconstructions of the country it self. So wood was not as available. So in early productions there were examples of cherry walnut and other types of wood. The dark color of a rifle comes from the color of the paint that was used on the rifle. Also there was pre-treatment of the wood and I believed they use magnesium. This is why there is that dark red color stock.
