I'm in the market for a decent scope for my Tikka 300 Win Mag. It will be used mostly for medium to long range (200-600yds) hunting any game.

The scope that caught my attention at first was the Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10x44mm. I like the fairly simple BDC reticule, 30mm tube and the capped turrets.

I personally have a Sightron SIII and I like it a lot for the price. so this scope has me interested as well though its twice the price of the vortex.
S-TAC2.5-17.5X56IRMOA/TT

But I was wondering about other scopes, I'm not familiar with any of the German scopes and they supposedly have the best glass. There are so many scope makers so I'm wondering if I'm missing a gem that might be just what I want.

I'd like it to have the following.

1. 30mm tube
2. Capped turrets
3. Fairly simple Reticule
4. Parallax adjustment (not a deal breaker if its fixed at 100yds)
5. No more than $1000 if possible

What should I get?

Are you stuck on MOA? If not, the Bushnell Elite LRHS 3-12x44 can be had for around that price right now, if you can find one in Canada while the '25 Days of Bushnell' promo is on. With the promo deal pricing, it checks all your boxes but capped turrets. The windage is capped, and while the elevation isn't capped, it's a low-profile turret that would be very hard to turn inadvertently. I'd rank it high above the Viper in terms of glass and build quality/durability. No first hand experience with the STAC, but the LRHS has some features that the Sightrons lack.

Yes I second the Bushnell LRHS! it also comes in 4.5-18 and illuminated. With this Bushnell rebate happening, right now is the best time to buy. Talk to Omer at plainsight solutions he will take very good care of you!

I had a Burris Six-X 2-12x40. It has everything you are looking for. I had it on a .375 Ruger and man, that was a tough scope. Wholesale Sports in Calgary has one.

Is this going to be a walking-around rifle? The Bushnell Elite LRHS weighs 24oz, while something like a Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40 weighs 12.6 oz. (1" tube though.) The VX-3i 4.5-14x40 with side focus and 30mm tube is 15oz and the version with 50mm objective is 17oz.
