What was the shortest barrel available on an Auto5?

The shortest standard factory Auto-5 barrel was 60 cm which is 23.622" It would have been marketed in the US as a 24" barrel.

Browning would accept custom orders in odd lengths, but I dont know of any in particular that were short.

ps: Dont cut down a good original barrel, or I'll put a cures on your house....

If you must cut one buy a clapped out barrel with a polychoke on it and carve away.

I'm not positive but the factory 24" barrels may or may not have been a slug version only. 24" seems to be the norm with most other factory shotgun slug barells but i'm no expert. A little off topic but one of Clyde Barrow's favorite weapons was a sawed off Browning A5(Bonnie & Clyde) . I don't think he would of kept it around if it had affected function much. You can see the chopped A5 here leaning against the bumper (try to ignore the BAR!)

Browning used to make an auto5 they called the "buck special" it was a smooth bore for rifled slugs, and i think it came with a sling.I have a small broshure here somewhere that shows it. This was back in the '60's

The 24" barrel preceeded the Buck Special which was introduced in 1962, and the big news was the iron sights on the barrel.

Short barreled Auto-5's are not a new thing.......digging into my records, there was a factory Auto-5 marketed with a 20" barrel. It was in the 1904 catalog and was called the "Messenger Gun".
