Hey Folks, just curious to see what people started out with, whether new or old at the time, what was your first shotgun, and how did you get into skeet and trap?

My dad shot trap and my grandfather was a skeet & trap shooter
My first round of skeet was with my grandfathers model 12 in 28ga and my first round of trap was with dad's model 12 in 12ga
My first new shotgun I bought myself was a 870 wingmaster
Cheers

I got in to Skeet shooting when a member at the local gun club offered to let me try out some of his gear. Ever since then I've been hooked.
I bought a Mossberg 500 12 gauge as my first shotgun and have since picked up a Browning BPS 12 gauge which I only use for skeet shooting. I tried using a semi-auto for a while but went back to the pump.

I also am starting with a Mossberg 500. I have another therad asking for advice to minimize recoil. Im starting to think I should start with a recoil pad, as the but stock is just wood with the plastic cap.

My first shotgun was a Brazilian single shot similar to the older Remington and CIL's of the day, but the no name KMart version in 20ga. I grew up in a hunting family, so it was just for partridge, it wasn't until I was in my mid/late 20's I joined a range and did any sort of clay shooting, mostly because a guy a work was into shooting and that got me out to the range a few times.

My first shotgun was also my first gun. It’s a Winchester SXP ultimate defender. The first time I used it was at a sporting clay tournament at my local club. I was invited by a friend. I shot about 300 rounds through it that day. Now I use it for hunting as well.

My first shotgun was a single shot Winchester 410 when I was 8 years old. I started shooting skeet when an avid skeet shooter(national champion) started work with us in the late 80s. He invited me out I shot a few rounds with a orrowed 1100, and then bought my own Citori Skeet model.

I had zero knowledge of shotguns and next to no experience. I shot 5 clays with an O/U when I was 13 then screwed around with a SXS one afternoon when I was 17.

Finally I bought a Mossberg persuader 4 years ago. 18.5" fixed cylinder bore. Not only did it suck but it was a lemon that broke twice that day. So I returned it for a Remington 870 tactical. Again 18.5" barrel with screw in cylinder bore choke.

From there I have traded, sold and bought a bunch of different brands and actions. Basically just going out to the bush and figuring it out through trial and error. Currently waiting on a trade, Remington sportsman 48 for a real nice Winchester 1200

When I was 15 the Hunter Safety Education course was held at the local skeet and trap club. They took us out to the skeet field with a 20 gauge pump and gave us each 5 shots at low #7. I had never fired anything but a 22 and a 410 up to that point and never at anything moving or flying. When I touched off the trigger on the first shot and the target turned to a black cloud of boiling dust I was hooked. I broke 4 of the 5 and could not wait to get my own shotgun and get back out there. A couple months later I was back there with an A-5 that sported a Herters adjustable choke. 39 years later and more gun changes than I care to count I still enjoy the game though I don’t change guns much any more. Been shooting the same 101 Pigeon Grade at skeet now since 1990.

Norinco HP9. This is when they first came out, what a POS. I blew off the bead the first shot and didn't take long before the action bars bent.

Yup, me too. Brazilian 20 ga. Christmas present that was purchased from Canadian Tire when I was 11. Shot a lot of grouse with that. At 15 y.o. I threw hay bales all summer to buy an 1100 to shoot waterfowl. My nephew now has the 20 and my son the 1100. Clay games came later for me and started with a Citori 20 ga. followed soon after by a 101 silver pigeon 20 ga. Now I have one clays o/u and several sxs for clays/hunting.

870 and I had it for a long time before I ever broke my first clay.

New to clay shooting (in the last year) and it is a ton of fun so far, learning something new every time I get out and still figuring out what I prefer (going to try sporting clays for the first time this spring).
