I've narrowed down my selection of a new 12 gauge pump action to one of three (so many choices) and was wondering what some of you might select. I'm only going to use it for shooting targets so I don't need anything with a long barrel. I'm thinking of an 18 or 20 inch barrel with a 2 or 3 shot magazine extension and a simple bead sight. I'd like a robust finish and something that's not going to break the bank. I'm interested in something fairly simple. I won't be hanging lights or fancy sights on it. Which of these would you choose?

1. Fabarm SDASS trainer
2. Browning BPS high capacity
3. Remington 870 police

The Remington 870 has been an excellent design that has really needed no improvements since it came out. (I think 1952)

i like both the 870 and mossberg. pick which one fits you good. i like the action bar release and safety alot better on the mossberg, but if you like the remington go for it! go for a 20" 590 and u already get 9 shells in it.

if your shooting targets i would assum e u are shootin slugs, get the ghost rings, it helps alot.

well, since my 870 P will be here any day now, i'm going to have to go w/ that!!

Anybody know where the best place is to get an 870P at a decent price? I'm in Calgary and the two places I tried here don't have any. I found one I liked at Ellwood Epps' website in Ontario but the one I liked was out of stock. The price was around $560, which I thought was fair.

What we would choose doesn't matter. What matters is what works for you.

It's all well and good to narrow down your choices on paper, but what really counts is how they FEEL to you. That means going down to the store and spending some hands on time with the guns on your list. While you may like the looks and features of a certain model, that doesn't mean that you'll like how it feels when you hold it up to your shoulder and look down the barrel.

You've already done the hard part of doing the research and finding what you find appealling. Now it's just a matter of figuring out what feels best to you. But of course don't rule out the possibility that you'll come across another shotgun you never even considered or thought you would like.

I find that this usually happens when one goes to the store to just buy ammo. :D

A Vietnam era Savage 12 gauge milsurp with original GI sling almost followed me home a few weeks ago, and ironically I was there to bring in a shotgun for consignment. :D

It fit me like a glove as well. :)

You showed remarkable restraint by leaving it behind. Are you feeling okay?:D

Well i have had the 870 wingmaster sold it (d'oh) I was a poor student at the time but when i think of it i could have probably survived on kraft dinner for a while longer.:bangHead:
then i had an 870 Marine magnum i loved it then i traded it (stupide me!!):slap:
now i traded a norc 1911 for an 870 tac magnum and i am keeping it!
So if you ask me, if the fit and finish suit you go for the 870, for me they just keep comming back and i love'em.:shotgun:

it's a little early yet- wait till august and ct on macleod trail, wsl and russels will ALL have them in- the 870 is a STAPLE as far as pump shotguns are concerned- now if you want one of them thar riot guns, or a combo, you might have a little trouble getting one

Of the ones you have listed I'd go for the 870.

Personally I'd say forget those, get a mossberg 590 - 9 shot mariner. It fits all the criteria you have and IMO is reliable as hell.
