I went out to the range before Christmas to make sure my rifle was bang on so I could go out and nail a few yotes over the holidays and also in January since I am off work for a while. I found out fairly quickly that the scope would not hold zero worth a s**t, checked the rifle over and it was definately the Leupold scope giving me the problems. So I called the rep which is located in Okotoks just south of Calgary about five minutes. They told me to drop it off and Gordon would have a look at it in the next few days. So far so good, should be back up and shooting within a week or so......

I asked them if I could pick it up when it was finished because I would be in the area off and on over the next few weeks. They said no, they would rather send it in the mail. I didnt like this idea but what can you do I guess. So I waited for a few weeks and gave them a call last Monday and was told that it was in the mail. I waited for three more days and called them again and told them I had still not recieved it and asked them if they could do a search for me to find out where it was. I was told then that it was shipped out on December 28 and it was now January 12. Basicly Canada post said it was lost and they had no trace of it. Kinda funny considering I only live 20 minutes away from thier store front.

I have phoned them about four times since then and keep getting told to wait a few more days. Phoned again today and was told the same thing again, wait a few more days. They did say that the scope would be replaced if it was not found, but really , how long should I have to wait. It has almost been a month since I dropped it off and I am starting to get a little pissed at the whole situation.

I am a long time user of leupold products, but if this goes on much longer I will think twice about that.

What would you do in this circumstance?

Sorry about the long story, just had to vent I guess:mad:

I don't see why they wouldn't let you just pick it up, it's easier then packing and mailing it. Sounds like they had this whole lost in the mail thing planned.

Well, I dont think that is the case in my opinion. But you never know:confused:

The other thing that I did not talk about in my last post is that I have a few friends who are fairly good friends with Terry Korth who is the leupold rep for western Canada but is out of town for the next while. I dont want to burn any bridges over this deal, but I would like to get it solved sooner than later.

But, if I have to take it farther, I will. I buy quality optics for two reasons, they work very well in the conditions I hunt in and the quality of service, period. Number two is digging under my skin right now and if this does not get solved soon I will be going out of my way to change optics on all of my rifles.

I have some very big hunts coming up this year and dont have the time to screw around with petty crap like this:mad:

I think you should give them a deadline so they don't keep giving you the runaround.

I just had them do some work on a scope of mine and they were excellent to deal with, and the work was more than expected. I wanted the cross hairs changed and they fixed the faded out numbers on the AO and covered up the scratches on the main tube. Very good to deal with no issues at all.

I think the problem here is Canada Post not the Leupold warranty centre...this has been discussed before on here. I've experenced the same thing by Canada post on some dies...received an opened package and a sorry note attached to by Canada Post..WTF...dont trust Canada Post at all.

I think you should ask the warranty depot how long before they will replace the scope. I suspect that they would like to wait at least one month for it to surface through Canada Post.
I personally don't believe you have much to worry about. They have committed to replacing the scope if it does not surface through Canada Post. The only question is how soon they will replace it.
Their reputation is excellent.

Like I said in my above post, I almost insisted that I pick it up at thier shop. Christ, I only live 20 minutes away, seems kinda stupid to me to send it by mail when I have been only five minutes from thier door step about five times since I sent it to them.

dont trust Canada Post at all

This was why I wanted to pick it up, I have had problems before with Canada post.

There shop isnt open to the public, no that they were trying to inconvience you.

If I can walk in the door and hand it to someone, I should be able to do the same on pick up. I know other people who have done it before. You would think in this case it would have been easier than shipping it.

I know that it sometimes is allowed...I did it just last week as I live here in Okotoks. It being lost in the mail can't be blamed on them, hopefully they will help you out with the lose if it doesn't turn up.

So, what if they insisted that even though you live in Okotoks they had to send it by mail to you that you could not pick it up? would you not be at all pissed at the situation?

Now today they told me it would be another month before they could do anything

Hey Harv, how about you give me your scope and well pretend it was yours that was lost :p :p :p :D

J/K :D :D :D

HAHA u too funny...I am not saying I wouldnt be pissed I am saying you are pissed at the wrong person...they didnt loose it, Canada Post did...but I do agree with you on the issue that you should be able to pick it up, not that big of a deal to do that I would think.

Besides you dont want my scope, its pretty beat up and on its way to Leupold in the US to get a face lift...so its costing more than what its probably worth. ;)

Hey Harv, I dont think you are reading all of my posts. YES, I am pissed at Canada post, but I did not want to go through them in the first place. do ya get my drift? I did NOT want it sent by Canada post from the start! But now I am stuck with my #### swingin in the wind because of thier mistake in shipping choices.

Why is it my fault? If I had asked them to ship it by Canada post, then yes I could understand your point completely 100%.

If I could have just picked it up, this never would have happened and I would be a happy camper right now.

Now I am trying to figure out what scope to buy to replace the lost one. I am not going to be waiting around once spring hits waiting for them to decide what to do. That might be allright for you but doesnt work for me and my time schedule.

I am sure you know what a good scope costs these days, they aint cheap. But for me right now, money doesnt grow on trees. But I am also not going to sit around waiting for Canada post to do something when I shouldnt have to in the first place

I sympathis with you, I would be pissed too, I never said I wouldn't be. I hope it all works out for you in the end and doesn't cost you a new scope.

I can't figure out why they wanted to mail thee danged thing and why it is going to take another month to straighten it out!!??
This is not good.
Maybe ask them why so loong, and why they didn't want you to pick it up.

I would be demanding a scope, wehter mine or a new one NOW!!

Had a problem with a Gerber knife once, not a cheap pne.
It was replaced within the week.

My laptop was sabataged at work a few years ago.
I packaged it up, sent it East, and it was returned all fixed up in about 2 1/2 weeks with no questions asked and postaged paid.

Busted a Browning rod once, and a Lamaglass in thesame day.
Both rods were replaced with the same service, even though it was a non warranty situation that had them break.

My jetboat engine busted a bunch of mounting studs on it, the dealer and the boat Manufacturer between them said bring it in, it'll get fixed, no prblem, no questions.

BTW, I bought a new scope just before Christmas from one of our members
here, Peter Dobson.
He sent the scope and an invoice,no problems.

I cannot see why Leuplold shouldn't be able to do the same thing!
Very sorry for your loss, and I think this whole thing stinks!
You should be able to get stuff fixed, no sweat.

Ya, I dont get it either. I have had problems like this with other companies, but 99% of the time they would just replace it or fix the problem and keep the customer happy. Because really, that is what customer service is about.

It is not like Leupold as a company is going to go bankrupt by replacing my scope and keeping a long time customer happy.

Oh, I could see hundreads of Leupold employees losing thier jobs because they replaced my scope    Ya right!

Personally I'd wait 8-10 weeks or longer since they sent it before I got overly concerned. Canada post is very inconsistent in it's delivery times, even within Canada. Often the mail gets diverted, goes to other centers, and takes the long way around. I've been surprised sometimes at how quickly things can come (couple days), or shocked how long it takes (several weeks)!

The problem is no longer Canada Post. The fact that Leupold handled the situation so poorly, it really put doubts in people's mind about Leupold services.

I really sympathize for Carzy_Davey situation. Having spent the extra money for a defective product and yet got poor service. I wonder if the delay of this nature is part of their operating policy. If that is the case, how can people claim Leupold has exceptional service? What is going on?

Well, today I went out and bought a brand new scope. There is no way I am going to sit around waiting for Leupold to decide how long I should have to wait for Canada post to tell them it has been lost.

I never thought I would have to spend a sh*t load of money just to have a decent back up scope. Maybe I should just send them the bill .

Dont worry, they have not heard the last from me .
