Hey guys,
I'm going to try and keep everyone nameless in this thread but I'm sure you'll get the idea. I live in the Toronto Ontario area and recently purchased an Excalibur Crossbow from a certain large outdoors store. Total package with all the fixings and a few extras I threw into the cart cost me a cool $1000. I could have went cheaper but when I shoot at an animal my main goal is to kill it FAST so its not in pain for long.
Anyways, I notice there is something inside the scope obstructing my view of the crosshairs. I called the store and spoke with a guy in the archery department and he said by all means bring it in and they will replace the scope. So today off I go to the store and waited 20 minutes for someone to come help me. I finally called customer service and told them I'm waiting in archery for help and no one is here. She connected me to a manager whom brought someone over 10 minutes later. This guy then went off for another 10 minutes or so looking for the archery guy. The archery guy was no where to be found. Anyways this guy didn't want to replace the scope, he made it very clear and he complained to me that he was pulled from a safety course. He then called the manager that brought him over and the manager told him to replace the scope. So he started removing my defective scope and I went looking at more goodies to buy while he was doing that. Then we went into the range to sight it in. When I picked up the crossbow low and behold the line was in this scope. I said "Hey thats not the new scope, thats the old scope". He said "Well I shook it and the line went away so I figured it was ok". He then put the new scope on and I watched him this time and we sighted it in. After everything was done I left and called the manager to tell him about this scam the guy tried to pull on me. I explained I was concerned that if I got a deer in my sights and that defective line threw my aim off I could wound a deer rather than killing it causing the deer to be in pain for a long time until it died of bleeding, infection or Yotes. The manager was outraged and offered me a $50 gift card. I accepted. However I'm still getting the feeling that this isn't suitable compensation for what just happened and the risk this employee was putting on an animal's life. In fact I dont even think there is a money value on something like that with me.
Am I over reacting/over-caring? What would you do or how would you react?
Sorry for the long winded rant.
