Lets get a few opinions on what you'd do with this rig?

Remington Sendero .300 ultra mag.
Leupold mark 4 6.5 x 20

Look'n to change the stock, trigger, probably add a muzzle break ect. This is a limited budget build so what would you guys do?

If it shoots as is well. Tune the trigger. Work up the best handloads you can and shoot it until the barrel falls off. Then get it rebarreled with a high grade barrel.

300 RUM doesn't need a brake?? thats quite funny..
how many rounds you going to shoot??..3 and put it away..

I own a very similar rifle (700P in 300 RUM). Bed the stock, adjust the trigger, put on a brake (yes, it doesn't "need" one, sure makes it easier to use for a day at the range though), start reloading if you don't already. I use 207 gr Hornady's in mine, amazing down range trajectories. FWIW - dan.

Talk to your local GS about a brake. They are worth every penny. If your not shooting F-class with it, brake it. You will develop a flinch and it can become habbit. Next thing you know you will pick up you 22lr and be flinching. Under the "advice" of this forum I didn't bother breaking my 7mmRM when I built it and after 6 months I of shooting it and getting frustrated I took it to the GS to get a break, makes all the difference in the world.
I don't like shooting it around others tho, its pretty rude.

Stock is good. Get it bedded and pillared for optimum performance. You will find this alone will make a considerable difference.

With a big boomer I would get the trigger tuned by a GS. A 2lb-2.5 lb pull is optimum for a big caliber. You don't want it going boom when you are not ready for it.

Oh, and if you are not already reloading, get a kit and get going. Don't get a baby press for that caliber either. An RSCS rockchucker at the least. Find a load that works and shoot it till you burn the barrel out.

Then re-barrel it to a 338 Edge, you would already have the brass

This is what I would do on a budget.

Already got her shoot'n 1\2" groups at 100 with 180 noslers loaded up with 95 grs of retumbo... bin pinning dinner plate sized rocks at 6-700 yards and am quite happy with it so far. I do want to change the stock to something a little more "non sporter" and the break would be nice for range time. I shoot several rifles with "stout" recoil and flinching is not the problem but less punishment is alway nice...LOL.

Trigger was one of the first things I was going to change..... that factory remy sucks. Sad to say my A-bolt actually has a better trigger. Had a timney in another rem and it was nice.

Always wanted to go the lapua route but this will have to do for now.... sucks being poor!

I do occationally hunt with this rifle too, just for fun.
