What year for a 700

I've heard there are some quality issues with the 700's Remington is putting out now. If one was looking at a used 700 what years were the best?
 
I picked up a BDL in .35 Whelen from a friend of mine, and as far as I can figger out it's '02-'03. He never touched the action, but floated and bedded it himself and set the trigger to 2.5. The action is a hell of a lot smoother than any of the newer ones on the racks, and much better than many used ones I've looked at. (Thinking about building a .280I on a 700)
