What you fellas think about this procedure?

Why not just test fit the ammo to see if it chambers?
If you've been FL resizing, another trip through the die won't do anything. Neck sizing....how large is the chamber it was used in?

Agree with you on the chambering test fit. Better to full length size from the first step, but I'd buy and use a case gage too. As #### happens! Once fired or fire formed case's sometimes don't even like the chambers they were made in, especially in the larger calibers. By sticking to SAAMI specifications, "different rifles" chambering the same caliber cartridge pose no surprises to the reloader/end user.

Run 30-06 handloads through a die to size the case for another rifle, which will have to be near factory specs. Gonna remove the guts of the Die prior to. Anyone try this? :)

Why remove the guts? Are you trying to resize loaded ammo?

This is not unheard of, Redding includes in their competition dies a "Body Die" just for this situation. The body dies brings back to spec loaded ammunition.

Hey thanks folks,
I'm a bit concerned on the procedure, but have 100 rounds that I neck sized (loaded ammo) for another rifle that is now gone, and can't close the bolt on these in another rifle. I know its gotta be a bit of the taper , and the case head that need a bit of sizing . Don't want to bang the bullets out of them. Anyway will let it be for now, maybe pull 20 at a time to make it not so much of a chore. :D

LG,

You won't be able to resize the brass with the bullets still seated, even if you take the guts out of the die.

The bullet will keep the neck from being sized down, and you will not be able to get the leaded case any further into the die than when the case neck first contacts the neck portion of the die.

Have you tried this? Or just presenting speculation as fact?

;)

'Cause it looks like you are right, I just tried and it resized the first 1/8" of the neck, then collapsed the shoulder; but have done it a lot with straight walled cases, .375 win, .357 mag and 9mmP and it works great.

And I really don't think the Redding body die is designed for loaded ammo. I'd use it; but I don't think that's what it is designed for.
