I've got a Remington 700 SPS in .223, twist is 12".

Here's what I have... Which one would be best based on the twist...

- Winchester 45gr Hollow Point
- American Eagle 50gr Hollow Point
- American Eagle 62gr FMJ
- Lapua Match Grade 69gr Aficionado

Just looking for punching paper at 100 to 500 yards.

I've so far seen 1 1/4" groups at 110 yards with the American Eagle 62gr FMJ.

Thanks!

To shoot 69gr bullets I think you require a 1 in 9 twist or faster barell.
To shoot 600 yds you will need a bullet heavier than 50 gr. They start tumbling at 500 yds. You may make it with a real hot load, i dont know what your MV. is, but I think it will have to be 3500 FPS+.
So if you can stabilize the 62 gr at 300 yds, thats the pick.

I was told that the American Eagle 62gr would be crap in my 12" twist but I've had one group of five rounds where four of those rounds were touching one another and I somehow managed to pull one of the shots, it was about an inch away from the others.

62 or 63grs bullets are right on the edge for a 1-12" twist .223 Rem barrel. If you can handload, try getting some match bullets in those weights. That will take care of those flyers you're getting with FMJ ammo.

shoot Hornady 50-55 gr Vmax or Federal/Winchester 50-55 gr Ballistic tips

you're gonna be poor if you dont reload...so, RELOAD YOUR OWN! :D

Instead of measuring your groups MOA,
you will have to use HOA.:runaway:

not HOA, but SOA, I mean real seconds :) 62gr FMJ factory ammo in my Savage 10FP with 1:9 twist are able to hit gopher at 200-250m with no problems :)

I've got two Remington rifles in .223 with 1-12 twist barrels. Both like to print raggedy hole grips with that econo Winchester whitebox 45 gr HP .223 ammo... Your SPS should be able to do the same, or better....;)
