As the title says, what's it worth?
Have a guy that wants to trade me his buffalo classic for my shotgun. I remember these being quite inexpensive when they were around however now that they're discontinued has that raised their worth?

I’ve had a few HR. Still have a 30-30 and a 410. Never had issues with any of them.
I have heard of them breaking in the hammer sometimes if dry fireing a lot.

But other then those Reports I found online nothing really.

Triggers are not awesome. But my 30-30 will still shoot 1.5” groups from a sled.

Would really like on in 500S&W

I've got quite a few H&R Handi rifles. A couple of which are buffalo classics. I've never had any issues with them other than some have very heavy triggers. The 223 accuracy was so-so. The 25-06 accuracy was very good, as was the 30-06. It's not a high end single shot design. I view them like the Zastava mausers, a great place to start for a project gun. I have done trigger work on 4 of them, taking them from 5 to 8 pounds, down to 2.5 to 3.5 pounds. It is finicky work, but it does have a very positive impact on accuracy. Brownells has a good selection of parts. If you want a place to start down the single shot path, they are a good low cost entry point.

I've had a bunch of the H&R and NEF singles, including a couple of Buff Classics. Most shot well, some very well, and I always thought they offered good value IF you specifically like and want a single shot gun...which I did.

But...if you just want a cheap-but-good gun, there are now tons of bolt rifles designed and built to fit the bill. And they're repeaters, which most people prefer.

Finally, now that they're obsolete the owners of old H&R singles in general and BC's in particular have decided that they have transmuted from steel to gold. As much as I like 'em, there is no way I think they are worth what people are asking nowadays. Gatehouse's estimate sounds about right, based upon the EE...but it's totally nuts, IMHO.
