What's a good, duty-reliable OOB 1911?

Let's say I wanted a 1911A1 .45ACP for duty/defensive carry. The gun should be [after a 500 round break-in] accurate, and extremely reliable. It should need _no_ tuning or gunsmith adjustment or any modifications except possibly the sights. It would also require _no_ aftermarket parts, including new off-brand magazines, springs or grips.

Does such a pistol exist? [I welcome recommendations and opinions]

What should I expect to pay for such a pistol?

[Yeah...I'm having a 'spirited discussion' elsewhere about whether one would be better off with a 1911 ACP or an M&P45. The questions above may give you a hint as to what side of the discussion I'm on...]

Without a doubt, the M&P is going to be a better gun for less money.

Best OOB 1911

Check out what people have to say about the Remington R1 1911. I mean the OWNERS, not the armchair experts.
Good sights, sharp checkered 'double diamond' grips, beveled mag well, lowered and dimpled ejection port, long tang - just the basics as per the Jeff Cooper school of thought on the 1911 as a defensive pistol.
I got mine for $699 from Epps. Best value for the buck I've found for a while.

If you want the extra bells, gongs & whistles, opt for the 'Enhanced' model.

I agree you'll get more for the money with the M&P, but if I were going to carry a 1911 on duty it would be an STI Ranger II. Ready to go out of the box, fantastic piece of work.

Of the 2 I'd go with an M&P45. They're effortlessly reliable, very accurate and are cheap for what you get. I've put a few thousand rounds through one and it just worked, every time, regardless of dirt, weather or anything else (like slightly too long reloads that wouldn't work in my 1911 :eek: ). It's kind of important to note that the only 1911 currently built for duty carry is the Springfield Pro model, and that even then they issue them in pairs. Here's an interesting link on the subject;

It all depends on your budget. I have a Springfield Professional witch is an expensive piece, it's also one of the most reliable 1911 on the market today and is incredibly accurate. Unless you want to go to full blown custom witch is way mas dineros.

As Hilton Yam stated: "The 1911 is an aficionado's weapon, and still has a place in the modern arsenal for those who are dedicated to it. With proper setup and maintenance, the 1911 can serve you like no other weapon."

Here's some pics of my setup:

I have to say for accuracy the 1911s ive owned have stole the show. Maybe its the forgiving trigger i dunno.

STI Spartan or Trojan. I know of one of each with very high round counts and no issues other than due to not being cleaned and oiled frequently enough for the amount of ammo shot through them.

Wow HC - superb pistol and very scarce. Did you have it brought in from the US, or order it and wait for it (I don't know how anyone could wait patiently for as long as it takes to get one of those). Either way, that's probably the only 1911 that I really want at this point. I would recomend one without hesitation, given that they are issued pistols.

Bought it from the original owner who imported it. It took about two years to get here. It's one heck of a 1911. Accuracy and reliability is simply outstanding and I would recommend one to anyone who wish to own the most street tested out of all the high end 1911's out nowadays.
