What's a good round for black bear? 30-06? 35 Remington? 405 Winchester?

I'm just looking at possible options here and thought I'd ask you good folks.

Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Depends on the range.....I use a ruger .44 carbine, 240 GR soft points.
Works well so far (and I have a freezer full of bear to prove it!)

You must be tough if you eat that stuff! Worst meat on the planet in my opinion.

I am planning on using a .358 win with factory loaded. Win power point 200gr. Not planning a shot past 150 yds. Do you guys think this will be sufficient?

Dave.

I had good luck using 270wsm with a 150 gr Nosler Partion, drops em dead every time last one was 125 yrs away, ran about 10 steps stumpled and did the kicking thing then it layed still, and that was it.

wwell my shots are all from a tree stand with range toping at 50-75 yrds so for me i like the .303 british almost as time honoured as the 30-06 and just as trustwoerthy when you know your rifle

No problem with mild cartridges from the 6.5X55 to the .308 - including the .30-30. You don't need to buy a powerful rifle for blackies if you don't have one, but if you do have one that's what I'd use. When I was a kid I never had one get away from my .303 with 180 gr. RN Remington Corelokt factory ammo - after that I used handloaded .45-70 and .30-06 rifles. I hunted thick bush in south eastern Manitoba, but along lake shores and powerlines the '06 was the better choice as the shots got a bit longer.
