Anyone have any suggestions on a good used SxS and please don't suggest a Purdy. Trade Ex has all kinds of different ones but I'm not familiar with most of them.

X2, but the Brno's are my favorite double and last I looked Tradex had quite a few and for really decent prices. If you go for one, get the extractor version because although I've never encountered it, the ejector grades are supposed to give some guys problems.

IMO, one of the all time best values in a high quality, yet affordable SxS is the Ithaca/SKB Model 100. You won't find them at Tradex, but they come up here in the EE forum. One recently sold this week in fact.

I like the cz shotguns. I looked at the hammer classic, for the exact purpose of clay shooting, but havent bought it yet, cause its around $1000.00.

And of course, the dfact that the hammer classic is not available in north America yet!f:P:2:
I have tried several places, and even the states has not seen them, I'd buy one in a heartbeat to shoot BP cartridge with!:p

They're not expensive, but IMHO nothing comes close to the old Brno ZP49's. They can be found with straight or pistol-grip stocks, splinter or beavertail fore-ends, and best of all they are true sidelocks...very cool. They are, however, fixed chokes. They have thin barrels that my gunsmith tells me don't have enough "meat" to ream and thread for aftermarket choke tubes.

However, they handle and carry beautifully. My favourite shotguns.

I have a few SxS's and one of them is the older Brno/CZ from about 1971. It is a 12 gauge with straight English stock. I can't believe how sleek it is and how it points and swings. Much better than my new 12 gauge CZ from Turkey. Plus the old Brno is a true side lock and has chopper lump barrels. I believe they are great value for the money, one of todays sleepers. Some people do have problems with the ejectors but I believe it is usually just the springs. Anyhow, you can use an ejector model as a non ejector if it fails to work.

Baikal. Can't kill em. I love mine but its fixed full/mod which I love. Makes you a better shot I think and I love the powder clouds it makes. Tradeex has them cheap and they are truely well built guns. And if you don't like it you can easily get your $300 bucks back by selling it

I'll second the lowly Baikal. I've shot a Made in USSR IJ58 for 25 years, never a problem. 12 ga. SXS, Barrels 271/2"(Barrels cut to open chokes, Original 285/8" F/M fixed choke). Double triggers. She weighs 6 5/8 Lbs empty, good weight for an Upland gun I think. The tang safety is small and a bit slow to get off. I think they can be had in worst case Ontario for $200-250 bucks in very good condition. Not fine guns but reliable and affordable in my experience.

Parkers are a great find, Model 21s are nice, and to a lesser degree the BSS. Sauers were fine guns as well and there are a whole host of English makers that made/make fine guns. Fit is important and should not be overlooked.

What's your budget?
